Here are some pics of the Branson damage from my local station:

http://www.4029tv.co...908/detail.html

Here are a lot more on KY3's site covering several of the locations hit last night: http://www.ky3.com/g...64.photogallery

Based on those pictures, imo it will probably be rated a high end EF2 or a low end EF3. There is alot of EF1 damage though.

Yikes, 100-120mph straight line winds.

The one somewhat minor positive of this event is at least it hit at night. It sounds bad to say it but with this going through downtown Branson, there was little to no people on the streets or inside for a show, etc... and the fact that the picture above for example shows commercial buildings just completely collapsed or in some cases severely damaged if more people were inside.

Not trying to downplay the fact fatalities occurred because of it being at night still, but just thinking out loud about how this event played out.

I can't share albums on mobile, but if you look up Laclede County Office of Emergency Management on facebook, they have storm damage pics of from Lebanon.

I also found out, even though I called her and told her there was a tornado on the ground, they didn't think the threat was great enough to head to the community shelter.

City of Joplin: 10 of our finest are heading to Branson, returning the favor as their PD came to our aid in our time of need; we wish them well.

City of Joplin: We've reached out to Harrisburg, IL as well. Possible EF-4 in that southern Illinois community.

Yup, it's an EF4, deadliest in IL in awhile too.

I greatly respect Joplin, not only for how you all handled the tornado and its aftermath, but also for how you all aid others in their time of need. That's very honorable in my book. You live in a great city, JoMo.

Sigh...

Excellent example of the power of dual-pol, and excellent use of it by SGF. It's one of the only ways we can have (nearly) direct measurement of what is happening on the ground. I like how they incorporated it into the warning text as it was impacting Branson. Despite having no visual on a tornado, spotters reported power flashes and dual-pol had a clear tornadic debris signature, and SGF was able to say they had high degree of confidence that a tornado was on the ground and doing damage.
