I enjoy this line from DMX:

LEAD TROUGH EXTENDING

SOUTHEAST OF THE LOW IS STRETCHED THROUGH CENTRAL IOWA WITH GUSTY

SOUTHWEST WINDS AND COLD ADVECTION SPILLING INTO THE STATE. HOW

OFTEN DOES THAT HAPPEN!

Ha, yeah they are right. Certainly not often do you see CAA on the south side of a low. These tightly wound PV's certainly favor such odd advection.

850 T advection. Definitely unusual.

don't know any exact numbers, but this could be one of the wettest February storms we have had(had nearly an inch of rain as of midnight at Chan). We have a solid ice coating on all the branches and sidewalks were very slick last night. The snow/sleet has helped the roads a bit so it's slushy instead of just the glaze. Still a little sleet mixed in here but mainly clumps of snow falling now.

The 6am measurement in Chanhassen came in at 3.9", pretty good for 2-3 hours of snow, brining the season total from 18" to nearly 22"(about 60" behind last years total to date). The band has moved just north of me now so will have to wait til it backs on in to add any more.

Well, that was a fun little storm, even though I missed the heaviest snow. Had some good ice and then a nice heavy burst of snow this morning. Didn't measure, but it sure looked like at least 4 inches. And from the obs it looks like it came in about a 2 hour window.

Here are some pics. The first two are from last night at 11pm. Nice ice up on the trees. It was sleeting like crazy at that point. The rest are from this morning.

Looks like Chanhassen has a pretty good system to keep their map updated: http://www.crh.noaa....x/?n=snowtotals

Good number of 16-17" totals in north central WI. The north shore of Superior should be cashing in now with some lake help.

I don't think we have any posters there...but you're right, there are some very impressive snow totals in N WI so far.

8 miles W of Merrill WI, they have 16"...including 7" in a 2.5 hour period from 6AM to 8:30 AM.

The highest total I've officially seen so far is 17" in Crandon, WI. I believe Rhinelander has about 17" too...with the NWS saying that local totals of 20+" are possible when it ends later today. This storm is definitely an overperformer...just not in the areas that some models originally showed.

I was up there snowmobiling in mid-January, near Eagle River WI...just a beautiful area.
