OHweather
Not a bad little waterspout and nice pic Trent...looks like you were in the right place at the right time for sure. These spouts today have been occurring under very weak radar returns, Florida Keys like.
NEOH
Nice pic Trent. I'm sure there will be plenty more to come this Fall with the warm lake temps. The cool temps were a nice change this weekend, but I'm hoping for a mild/warm fall to keep the lake temps up.
Jonger
I did post some more pictures in the general August thread, but this is another one I snapped: Very nice photo.... Seeing my first rotating column of water or air still eludes me.
michsnowfreak
Another interesting stat, it's been 35 days since CLE has dipped below 60. I couldn't find a July at CLE that didn't get below 60 before this. How long will this streak last? It has happened twice at Detroit. As hot as the last two Julys were, even with UHI, DTW got down to 58F in 2011 and 59F in 2012. Three times has Detroit failed to fall below 60F. In Aug 1900, the low was 60F In July 1921, the low was 61F (and that was on the 31st, previous low of the month was 64F). Im July 1931, the low was 60F. Cleveland doesnt have data going back as far as Detroit on NCDC for whatever reason, but if this was the official site, then Clevelands low was 61F in July 1931. No idea on 1921 http://www1.ncdc.noaa.gov/pub/orders/IPS-96E6B692-2AC8-4FF4-ACF3-D35CE89BC7F5.pdf
NEOH
Had a nice view of the small storms near the lakeshore earlier this morning. Hopefully we can get a few storms to pop today. It's getting really dry out there again.
NEOH
The storms over the lake must be producing some nice waterspouts. Crazy looking sky out there. Small cell passed just west of MBY... sent out a lightning bolt that sheared off the top half of my neighbors pine tree.
Trent
Looks like August will end up being the driest month this summer, yet oddly enough the greenest. Looks like there was also a pretty cool waterspout the other day : http://www.erh.noaa.gov/cle/wx_events/2012/Aug/waterspouts.php

Looks like there was also a pretty cool waterspout the other day : http://www.erh.noaa....waterspouts.php And the dryness looks to continue for awhile. I had a few good soakers in August so no complaints. The grass that managed to survive through June and July has greened up... but the grass that went dormant looks to have died. Trent
Here's something to keep in mind. The record warm Lake Erie temperature at Cleveland set earlier in the month has fallen 7 degrees. The current Lake Erie temperature at Cleveland is running one degree below normal now.

carumba
I am sooooo done with this heat. Please, can we just have seasonal temps around here? I really enjoyed earlier this week.
OHweather
Looks like a great week ahead, with lots of sun and seasonable to slightly warm temps through Friday after the potential for some rains tomorrow. Unfortunately, the drought relief looks to remain on standby until we figure out where Isaac's remnants will go.
NEOH
It was a great weekend. Hopefully we are through with the heat. The soil is extremely dry once again. The rain seems to be having a hard time pushing east but most of the area should see a few hours of light rain this morning. It will be interesting to see where Isaac heads. 6z GFS would be a drought buster. 138 Sun 09/02 00Z 70 ° 73 ° 70 ° 68 ° E 2 W 7 0.15 0.01 573 587 16 ° -6 ° 1017 99 % 141 Sun 09/02 03Z 69 ° 70 ° 69 ° 66 ° ESE 4 SSW 4 0.10 0.01 573 587 16 ° -7 ° 1016 100 % 144 Sun 09/02 06Z 69 ° 70 ° 69 ° 66 ° ESE 7 SSW 11 0.19 0.04 573 585 16 ° -7 ° 1015 100 % 147 Sun 09/02 09Z 68 ° 69 ° 68 ° 65 ° SE 7 SW 16 0.23 0.02 573 584 16 ° -6 ° 1014 100 % 150 Sun 09/02 12Z 67 ° 69 ° 67 ° 65 ° ESE 11 S 22 0.42 0.00 573 583 17 ° -5 ° 1012 100 % 153 Sun 09/02 15Z 66 ° 67 ° 66 ° 63 ° ESE 16 SSE 43 1.01 0.00 574 582 16 ° -5 ° 1010 100 % 156 Sun 09/02 18Z 67 ° 67 ° 66 ° 64 ° SE 13 SW 49 2.26 0.07 576 582 16 ° -4 ° 1008 100 % 159 Sun 09/02 21Z 69 ° 69 ° 67 ° 66 ° S 9 WSW 38 0.74 0.26 578 582 17 ° -4 ° 1006
Trent
Either I've just not been paying attention, but this morning's rain has caught me off guard. I didn't think a widespread light rain event was going to unfold today. It will also be close as to whether August closes with a positive or negative temp departure. I'm betting we close the month around +0.3 or essentially normal. Just wait til we can snag a -3 departure, it will feel frigid.

Slow and steady rain out there which is much needed. When is the last time we had a negative departure?

NEOH
Picked up 1.25" yesterday. All day soaker but cleared out nicely in the evening. Will be interesting to see where Isaac's remnants head. Sunday and Monday could be a wash out. Still a long ways out.
Entropy
Based on my extended data set for Cleveland, this summer will go down tied for sixth warmest on record. The first eight months of the year are easily the warmest on record.
NEOH
Prospects for rain from Isaac aren't looking so great in the NE part of the state. You can see the front in radar pushing down through lake county... should backdoor most of the area and keep the rains just south. At least we won't have to suffer through a rainy weekend. OHweather
Got a good period of moderate rain here for several hours last night... A lot of areas saw a good .5"+ precip yesterday and last night...given the warm rain processes that occurred these radar estimates likely are a bit low. More chances for precip through Tuesday. Was really surprised by the rain last night. It was coming down hard around 11pm but I figured it would be brief. Feels like mid summer out there tonight. Feels like mid summer out there tonight. I wasn't really paying attention yesterday as it was my birthday, but when I left around 7 I figured the rain would do what it did all day and stay south of us...was outside around 11 and it started raining, it was raining with occasional thunder/lighting until I got home around 3am...was a nice surprise and a good, steady soaking. Not drought busting but relieving for sure. I'm not a big fan of these tropical airmasses as we get into September, however
OHweather
Some good rains today, focused on Cuyahoga County. My guess is much if not all of northern Ohio is out of the "moderate drought" this next update.

Trent
I'm in Denver, appears the rains were hit or miss. Burke Airport didnt seem to get much, if any, rain the past few days. Judging from precipitation estimate maps, my backyard was lucky to get a tenth.
