Another interesting stat, it's been 35 days since CLE has dipped below 60. I couldn't find a July at CLE that didn't get below 60 before this. How long will this streak last?

It has happened twice at Detroit. As hot as the last two Julys were, even with UHI, DTW got down to 58F in 2011 and 59F in 2012. Three times has Detroit failed to fall below 60F.

In Aug 1900, the low was 60F

In July 1921, the low was 61F (and that was on the 31st, previous low of the month was 64F).

Im July 1931, the low was 60F.

Cleveland doesnt have data going back as far as Detroit on NCDC for whatever reason, but if this was the official site, then Clevelands low was 61F in July 1931. No idea on 1921

Looks like August will end up being the driest month this summer, yet oddly enough the greenest.

Looks like there was also a pretty cool waterspout the other day :

And the dryness looks to continue for awhile. I had a few good soakers in August so no complaints. The grass that managed to survive through June and July has greened up... but the grass that went dormant looks to have died.

Here's something to keep in mind. The record warm Lake Erie temperature at Cleveland set earlier in the month has fallen 7 degrees. The current Lake Erie temperature at Cleveland is running one degree below normal now.

It was a great weekend. Hopefully we are through with the heat. The soil is extremely dry once again. The rain seems to be having a hard time pushing east but most of the area should see a few hours of light rain this morning. It will be interesting to see where Isaac heads.

6z GFS would be a drought buster.

Either I've just not been paying attention, but this morning's rain has caught me off guard. I didn't think a widespread light rain event was going to unfold today.

It will also be close as to whether August closes with a positive or negative temp departure. I'm betting we close the month around +0.3 or essentially normal. Just wait til we can snag a -3 departure, it will feel frigid.

Lately, any time it rains it catches me off guard. Slow and steady rain out there which is much needed. When is the last time we had a negative departure?

April of this year was -1.0. Before that the last real cold departure month was Jan 2011, which was -2.6

Prospects for rain from Isaac aren't looking so great in the NE part of the state. You can see the front in radar pushing down through lake county... should backdoor most of the area and keep the rains just south. At least we won't have to suffer through a rainy weekend.

Bust. Picked up almost an inch last night out of no where.

Edit: 1.90" in the rain gauge. The radar estimate was way off.

Got a good period of moderate rain here for several hours last night...

A lot of areas saw a good .5"+ precip yesterday and last night...given the warm rain processes that occurred these radar estimates likely are a bit low. More chances for precip through Tuesday.

Was really surprised by the rain last night. It was coming down hard around 11pm but I figured it would be brief. Feels like mid summer out there tonight.

I wasn't really paying attention yesterday as it was my birthday, but when I left around 7 I figured the rain would do what it did all day and stay south of us...was outside around 11 and it started raining, it was raining with occasional thunder/lighting until I got home around 3am...was a nice surprise and a good, steady soaking. Not drought busting but relieving for sure.

I'm not a big fan of these tropical airmasses as we get into September, however

I'm in Denver, appears the rains were hit or miss. Burke Airport didnt seem to get much, if any, rain the past few days. Judging from precipitation estimate maps, my backyard was lucky to get a tenth.

You are correct. Here in Chagrin we received nothing on Monday, but got quite a soaking today with at least a couple hours of heavy rain and TS.
