Yeah, I think it was a Thursday or a Friday. I remember walking to the library around 11am with a sheet of sleet hitting my face. Slightly painful.

Must be it then. It was the only snow day I had in high school...aside from 2 exam cancellations for snow squall warnings that never verified.

...WINTER STORM NOW UNDERWAY...

AN AREA OF MODERATE SNOW IS ADVANCING NORTHEAST ACROSS THE REGION

ON THE NORTH FLANK OF LOW PRESSURE MOVING ALONG THE OHIO RIVER.

TEMPERATURES HAVE QUICKLY DROPPED 3 TO 4 DEGREES AT THE ONSET OF

PRECIPITATION WHICH HAS TRANSITIONED ANY MIXED PRECIPITATION TO

ALL SNOW. SNOWFALL RATES OF HALF INCH TO 1 INCH PER HOUR ARE

LIKELY FOR THE NEXT 2 TO 3 HOURS SOUTH OF I-69. THE BAND OF

HEAVIEST PRECIPITATION WILL GRADUALLY LIFT NORTH. ONCE THIS

INITIAL BAND OF SNOW LIFTS NORTH OF I-94...THE REGION APPEARS TO

ENTER A DRY SLOT AND SNOW RATES SHOULD DECREASE DRAMATICALLY OR

ALL TOGETHER STOP FOR A PERIOD OF TIME AFTER 1 AM. SATELLITE

OBSERVATIONS OVER LAKE MICHIGAN SHOW AN INCREASED LIKELIHOOD OF A

SECOND ROUND OF MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW IN THE AREA AFTER 4 AM.

Izzi's 6z aviation update...

BAND OF MODERATE TO OCCASIONALLY HEAVY SNOW HAS BECOME FAIRLY

WELL SITUATED FROM S WI/FAR N IL WSW INTO SOUTHERN IA. TO THE

SOUTH OF THIS BAND WDLY SCTD RAIN/SNOW/GRAUPEL SHOWERS HAVE BEEN

COMMON WITH SOME DZ/BR IN BETWEEN THE SHOWERS. AS UPPER LOW OVER

IA PIVOTS EASTWARD LOOK FOR BAND OF MOD-HEAVY SNOW TO MIGRATE

SOUTHEASTWARD INTO THE CHGO METRO TERMINALS. PRESENCE OF STEEP MID

LEVEL LAPSE RATES AND FAIRLY STRONG ASCENT CERTAINLY SUGGEST SOME

POTENTIAL FOR SOME HEAVIER ELEMENTS AND POSSIBLY EVEN A RUMBLE OF

THUNDER.

ORGANIZED SYSTEM SNOW SHOULD PULL OUT FRIDAY MORNING WITH CLOUDY

AND BLUSTERY CONDITIONS IN ITS WAKE. FORECAST SOUNDINGS SUGGEST

NOT ONLY STRONG/GUSTY WINDS WITH GUSTS OF 25-30KT PROBABLE.

ALSO...VERY STEEP LOW AND MID LEVEL LAPSE RATES WITH FAIRLY HIGH

BOUNDARY LAYER MOISTURE MEANS IT WILL TAKE RELATIVELY LITTLE TO

KICK OF SOME FRISKY SNOW SHOWERS DURING THE AFTERNOON FRIDAY.

MODELS DO SUGGEST A WEAK WAVE WILL ROTATE SOUTHEAST INTO THE AREA

LATER FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND HAVE KEYED IN ON THAT TIMING FOR A

PROB30 OF SHSN.

Right on the edge of mod-heavy snow much of the evening. Hard to complain, as I wasn't expecting much more than a couple inches, which I am approaching now.

It is pouring small flakes here right now. Can't complain here either, snow is sticking good. Gonna measure in a bit again. Probably 2.5-3.0" now.
