baroclinic_instability
What a crazy night...one of the most incredible wind events I have seen in a while...just so weird. Definitely a tropofold, and an incredibly active jet streak, the winds are still howling into the 60s across western NE. Just pulled a 12 hr shift monitoring winds and taking obs. To say it was an unsuspected night of extreme wind would be an understatement. http://www.crh.noaa.gov/news/display_cmsstory.php?wfo=lbf&storyid=79590&source=

baroclinic_instability
Wow measured gust approaching hurricane force, now that is impressive stuff there. Yeah it was crazy. And good point, forgot 74 MPH was hurricane force. Going to be a case study event...we are having our SOO save the data. It was weird...
baroclinic_instability
NAM (top)/ GFS (bottom) dynamic tropopause charts show the extreme "noise" in the trop fields...the atmosphere was incredibly out of balance...even the models were trying to simulate that. Definitely a good system worthy of a case study, I'll tell you this the last few systems have really shown how dynamic the atmosphere can be, and the next couple certainly look to continue the trend. Could make for some interesting/active times ahead.

baroclinic_instability
That Merriman profiler is incredible. What an interesting night...winds still spreading across Nebraska...inversions getting pwned. Shows the incredible mass descent behind this front to completely wipe out the inversions that were already in place.

bennyc50
I'm updating a "Santa Snowcam" sitting on my deck in Grand Forks. I initially did this for the '09 Christmas Blizzard that dumped 25 inches of snow on Grand Forks but figured I'd do it for the hell of it with this storm. While I don't have a webcam set up like I did in the aforementioned Snowcam, I will be updating via twitpics. If it were a major storm, then I would have webcam'd it. Check out the twitter hashtag #GFKSantaSnowCam for more updates. Here's where it's at at 5am (no snow around it initially)

mnweather
Reports of brown snow up this way according to DLH NWS. Here's a quote from their facebook page. "We have been getting numerous phone calls regarding "brown snow" today. So far, our best guess is that the dust storm that occurred in the plains states yesterday has wrapped into the storm system moving into our area today, giving a brownish hue to the snow across the region.
