wxhstn74
I had to laugh at the comments on DTX's "bad news" for snow. I know the guy personally and he is a neutrotic wx nut like all of us and is in the right biz. He also likes a good snowstorm but when you are working mids and have to drive home in the crap /Fri AM-rush/ it IS bad news. It reminds me of my fate and retirement: For the last several years as you know the winters were more than busy over SE Mich with numerous storms and record snows.I had to drive about 54 miles a day (27 both ways) in all the sheeeit. Of course, the first winter I retire...NADA, virtually nuttin honey. It is now a standing joke but please don't tell me to go back to work at the NWS...my blog and Oakland Press blog site are a nice start. snowstormcanuck
12z GFS hair south, warmer, weaker....classic '11/'12 winter. Still nothing like the 0z EURO, which had a strung out POS centered over WV. It'll be interesting to see the trends, but I'd wager the 0z EURO went overboard. You remain in the best possible spot for something of note, but this isn't looking like a blockbuster.

Thundersnow12
12z GFS hair south, warmer, weaker....classic '11/'12 winter. I'm actually a bit interested in this one. Another 50 miles or so south of the 12z GFS and we are in looking better. But then ofcourse BL temps aren't that favorable.

wisconsinwx
12z GFS would be pretty decent for S Wisconsin, following the theme of the 6z GFS and the 12z NAM, at least after 0z when the evening darkness sets in and the thicknesses collapse. turtlehurricane
MKX issued a winter storm watch for 3-6", with up to 8" in isolated spots. Seems a bit trigger happy but they need to warn people now if it does happen.

Seems a bit trigger happy but they need to warn people now if it does happen. I was about to comment that most of the Wisconsin folks have seemed conspicuously quiet considering both the GFS and NAM give S Wisconsin a decent WWA type event. And of course there goes my goal of having a WS watch or warning issued this winter. I never would've thought this would be the system that prompts a watch. wisconsinwx
That office has been like last for the last several years. 12z GEM south of the GFS/NAM. Sfc low around 994 passing over PIA/BMI. This year they have actually tended to be more conservative than LOT. LOT has issued two WSWs so far this winter (only one of which actually produced) and this is MKX's first (and we had over 6 inches with an advisory event in Jan. MKE has been too high with amounts the last few storms (events), but conservative with their watches. A watch was needed during the first system in southeastern WI. SchaumburgStormer
Not sure I am sold on a significant snow threat yet. IMO it appears things will be too warm, but apparently the quad cities and MKX offices are seeing something.

wisconsinwx
wtf? did Beast from the East break into MKE offices and start sending out forecasts. Lol, but come on. Both the 12z GFS and NAM indicate a stripe of 4-6" amounts, so I don't think it's farfetched to issue a watch.
