A thread for the cold and warm lovers...a comparison of two opposite Januaries, 1977 and 2006.

Per the NCDC region outlines, here's the average temperatures for both months and their all time ranks (1895 to 2012).

Ohio Valley Region (MO, IL, IN, OH, KY)

January 1977: 15.1 - coldest on record

January 2006: 40.7 - warmest on record

Upper Midwest Region (IA, MN, WI, MI)

January 1977: 2.9 - 2nd coldest on record; -1.5 in 1912

January 2006: 28.3 - warmest on record

January 1977 and 2006 statistics. Data taken from NWS sites, EC site, and the Utah Climate Center.

AVG MAX (average high temperatures), AVG MIN (average low temperatures), AVG TEMP (average monthly temperature), MAX <32 (number of daily high temperatures of 32 or lower), MIN <0 (number of daily low temperatures below zero), MIN <20 (number of daily low temperatures below 20 degrees), LOW MAX (lowest daily high temperature), HIGH MAX (highest daily high temperature), LOW MIN (lowest daily low temperature)
