But just think how difficult it has been for us to get snow this winter in Dec-Feb. To get snow that accumulates even a little in October is truly amazing and a bad omen as well by the way.

I'm never rooting for an early snowfall again. I'll wait till mid December if I have to for even a flake.

100000% we all had high hopes with that early snow for the future well in the end to good to be true.

There will be fine line between areas that get either snow or rain the next few hours. The rain/snow line will probably be somewhere between where wet-bulb temps are 34-36F. Which is just outside the NYC right now. Snow will probably accumulate the most, where wet-bulb temps are 33F or below:

I also don't believe the there will much sleet the next few hours, because 850mb and 925mb temps so far seem to be running uniform to each other, right now. I don't see many reports of sleet falling over PA, either. There might be more sleet well NW of NYC, later this afternoon, as the low-level temps cool down to near freezing, and mid-level temps rise above freezing:

Is Middletown really considered part of NYC metro, though? Its 70+ miles away on the other side of I-84...

In any case, I don't recall anyone who said no one in OKX-land would get accumulations.

Im not going back through the thread, it was stated numerous times. and its not just middletown seeing snow. I have started as snow here too, though its still very light.

Sometimes sleet forms because of a dry layer, not because of a warm layer. If raindrops pass through near freezing air which is very dry, the evaporation can cool them enough for them to freeze. There have been many reports of sleet to the west of NYC.

Well you're kinda correct, Middletown is along 84 but is on the north side and it's 50 miles from Central Park.

Light snow here with a coating on everything 30/27.

Middletown/Orange Co, NY is in the NYC combined METROPOLITAN statistical area (and so is Trenton, NJ/Mercer Co), but it is NOT in the metropolitan statistical area (e.g. metro area).

Fixed that for ya. And it was tongue in cheek, based on the comments yesterday that indicated a lot of people here seem to think this is the NYC/LI forum.

I've haven't seen any reports of sleet. Been look through mostly mesonet though.

Indiantown Gap reported sleet. A spotter in Allentown also reported sleet.

ASOS won't report sleet since it doesn't know what that is. Instead it can report just about anything else (rain, freezing rain, unknown precip or snow) instead.

Its kind of hypocritcal to say Orange county isnt in the "NYC metro area" when most consider Suffolk in the metro area yet MOST places in Orange county are closer to NYC than they are.. smh

more than 2/3 of the population of suffolk county lives closer to NYC than anyone in Orange county. I am 10 miles east into Suffolk County and I am a half hour drive from Queens. People who aren't from long island look at the long end and think people live there. Barely.

Middletown, Ny is not metro NY. Sorry.
