ravensrule
I hope your'e not talking about here and are talking about a chase. I'd head for CHO if you're going that route. Of course you can hope the RUC is right and only drive a few miles south. I like the fact that you read the whole thread Wes , yes him and Ian are chasing. Only in a winter like this would people chase to see possibly 3" .

Stormpc
Ian, give us the pbp on the leading edge when on 29. May take you a while to get there with 66 weekend traffic. Avoid Gainesville and take the rt 15 exit...it hooks back up with 29 southwest of gainesville. Saves a lot of time with traffic thru that area. mitchnick
im starting to feel nervous about even considering the ruc is right.. and last two runs dont look quite as good the closest snow of any consequence is under the thin band running west/east if you look at the traffic cams in C'ville in town and north, nothing look at the one to the SE of town and it's really coming down looks like if you go down 95 you'll hit it but traffic will turn to cr@p because people can't go 80+ in it good luck....meh

This winter is much worse for me, but you probably did not get the 14" on Jan 26 11 that i got so they are both close for you.

Exactly. 5 inches last year while everyone around us got creamed. At leastthis year everyone is getting the shaft.

mattie g
I'm honestly trying to figure out which winter I hate more. Last year or this one. Last year, easily. Even the January storm didn't redeem it. At least this winter it's been comfortable to go outside and enjoy the weather, and there haven't been any dreams to be crushed. Riptide
Smells like a January 24th, 2000 redux, I'm not joking around either unless all of that precip is virga. DC is already in light returns...

DC is already in light returns... Not trying to be a downer or anything but I think you'll be surprised how quickly this thing wraps up and turns due E or ENE. Short range meso depictions have the ULL taking over within the next hour or two and scooting offshore.

DC is already in light returns... It is all virga until down south of Dale City. Remember, LWX's radar is down, so the other WSR-88Ds that comprise the composite will be way up into the cloud. TDWRs are the way to go.

NOVAForecaster
We are on route 3 near Lake of the woods. Steady snow. Big flakes. Around 35. Not sticking yet. Any suggestions/advice welcome. If you head southwest towards Gordonsville, there should be a heavier band moving through in about 30-40 minutes, should put down some accumulations and some large flakes. But there will be some clearing first so if you go there and the snow stops or becomes lighter don't think that it is over or I led you to the wrong place.... Head SW towards Charlottesville... there's a pretty nice band heading into Lynchburg right now that's coming northeast towards you. EDIT: What NOVA said. The Lynchburg/Roanoke/Blacksburg stuff is the main game, as far as I can tell. You might as well get a little further south if you guys aren't concerned about wasting too much time/gas on this trip. Maybe Mineral/Lake Anna. The RUC and HRRR both insist on this band becoming more easterly moving as the day goes on.
