the festival has a fixed date, and it's too early for the trees to bloom. the festival organizers keep track beginning 3/1:

UKMET will probably have a cutter.

You know, the thought sort of crossed my mind that one last kick in the groin would be for the 00Z Euro to suddenly go to our west, giving us rain and 40s all day Sunday.

The tiny silver lining with all solutions going way south now is that at least Sunday will be halfway decent out (well, compared to getting washed out all day).

The true kick would be if the models wrap up the storm more and back it into SNE. Yeah, think about that one for a minute.

Actually, there's a grain of truth to my December comment. There were actually some cherry blossoms late that month! Though I thought I heard that's not all that uncommon for some of those cherry tree species (have seen it before during warm spells in winter).

Yes, the Festival is kind of cool and seeing the blooms is quite impressive around the tide pool area (Jefferson Memorial, etc.). However, the massive crowds kind of makes it a pain, but if you can withstand that it's worth it.

i think some species actually do bloom twice...but i do remember seeing pics of the blooms in Dec...yeah, the crowds at the festival is awful...but i loved the tide pool area of blossoms...i don't think i need to go back...once was enough...glad i went, but my goodness, there was no room to breathe!

It's a really weird progression to me. I guess I found it so hard to believe because the confluence just didn't seem so oppressive that it would make the low start heading due east (and even a touch south of east on this run) in freaking middle Georgia while temps here are in the upper 30s to 40.

Main reason it does that is actually the progression from leeside cyclogenesis to baroclinic development along the warm front.

Yes, know what you mean. I live here and have only gone a couple of times down to the Mall, etc., for that event. It really is crowded! And, to be honest it ticked me off seeing people climb all over these 80-90+ year old trees. I mean, really.

It is quite a sight though when all those trees are in full bloom.

not you inudaw.. im just trolling anyway. i havent looked that closely down there.

:P Don't worry I have not put out a forecast really all winter. And this one has not been that fun. With the initial boundary layer issues.. and the colder trend the past 24 hours or so. Also the drier look to it as it gets up to this region. Bunch of small factors adding up. I was prepared for the old .... rain to to a little snow here at the beginning. Now that's not even what might happen.
