JoMo
Thanks for posting this. A lot of it looks like Joplin does. Concrete slabs, open land, the occasional still damaged structure.

I understand that Joplin went through a terrible tragedy, but Joplin was nothing like this... the magnitude of each event isn't really comparable. I'm not trying to be confrontational, just trying to keep things in perspective. That said, I would like to see how Joplin is faring -- same for a lot of the areas in the South after the monstrous outbreak back in April. winterymix
Wow. Stunning photojournalism. To rebuild on the same spot, I guess since they have limited land to use, they are playing the odds that disaster will not strike the same place again soon/

I was comparing how it looked after and not the overall scope of the destruction. Japan was much worse of course. I watched the tsunami roll in live and was shocked. I was looking at how everything is cleaned up but there are still wide open spaces of nothingness in those Japan pictures. The picture of the concrete foundations where buildings once stood. The pictures that show buildings still standing but with visible destruction, looks very similar so I can understand that they have accomplished a lot and I can personally respect that more. masomenos
Impressive isn't even a strong enough word to describe how far they've come in less than 1 year. Time and time again the Japanese prove they are an incredibly resilient people. When it comes to disaster management they have the rest of the world beat by a mile.
