A-L-E-K
looks like we should see a 3-4 hour window here of high end light / low end mod snow with maybe a brief period of +SN. LOTs 1-3 call is right on target as is my early 1.5" call.
turtlehurricane
Tom Skilling mentioned this Arctic front may have entrained some of this moisture from Lake Michigan and Superior. Definitely, Lake Superior is like a sea and we're getting a direct high velocity feed off it right now.
wisconsinwx
Looks like we'll end up with around 2 inches as this snow starts to wrap up now. Nice 2-3 hour burst of snow while it lasted. A very mini version of February 11, 2003. Funny how different event types tend to repeat around the same time.
Geos
Temp in Kenosha is rapidly dropping under this band. 25° at the lakefront. Snow fall is increasing here.

wisconsinwx
http://mesonet.agron...our=8&minute=25 Yeah, thanks for that radar shot. As nice as this was coming in such a crappy winter, that was probably 5-10 times more epic (except for the unfortunate timing during the afternoon rush hour). A-L-E-K
high quality moderate snow downtown, temp around 36 Don't think i've ever seen it snow so hard without sticking to any surface, grass included.
Geos
Snow band hit! It was pretty cool, the sky got darker and the visibility dropped to 300feet now! Temp's crashing.
wisconsinwx
Snow band hit! It was pretty cool, the sky got darker and the visibility dropped to 300feet now! Temp's crashing. That was another thing I was going to add. It was snowing very lightly in my 10:00 class, and I could sense the sky was darkening as the snow approached. In this way it was almost convective and more like an approaching thunderstorm than an approaching snowstorm. One minute barely anything, a few minutes later it looked like a blizzard with the wind tunnel effect of a college campus enhancing this.

A-L-E-K
The eye opening display of the power of warm surface temps continues, really nice high end moderate continues with great flake size and not a single flake has stuck.

A-L-E-K
Yeah, it's coming down quite well nothing can stick! It has been impressive, i know warm surface temps hurt but i figured it was coming down hard enough to at least stick to grassy surfaces but that hasn't been the case. Either way, artic front is maybe an hour away, going to be a mess when the temp drops quickly and all this water freezes.

I'm interested in seeing the intensity of the band approaching north cook county.

I'm interested in seeing the intensity of the band approaching north cook county. i'm downtown for another hour or two, then heading home. I was originally going to stay downtown during the evening if the lake band was close enough but it doesn't look like it will.
Geos
Looks like the front is at LakeCook Rd now. Down to 24° now. Light snow falling. Haven't measured the snow yet, but I'm guessing between 2.0-2.5"

That's the problem with LES, it can make alot of snow, but if the lake is just a little too warm the boundary layer will be above freezing in the areas getting affected. A-L-E-K
Hard to say, but my window faces NW and is pretty high up, but it sure sounds a lot like pingers and there is something semi-hard bouncing off the ledge. +SN for a sub 2" frontal passage, this is going to rank pretty high.
