wxmeddler
Sterling wasn't supposed to start the upgrade until March 1st. Now it looks like a week sooner.

nw baltimore wx
This isn't to imply that there's a huge storm on the way, but does anyone know if LWX is considering postponing the upgrade until after the weekend?

I was wondering the same thing. Though radar coverage is pretty good with all the TDWR's and such.
wxmeddler
I was wondering the same thing. Though radar coverage is pretty good with all the TDWR's and such. I've seen them on the northwest coast wait for the storm to pass before taking the radar down. I've also seen the radar up while "in the 2 weeks". There's a lot of things that they can do on site without taking the data feed down. The main problem I guess with snow would be getting the contractors from the hotel to the WFO site. MGorse
This isn't to imply that there's a huge storm on the way, but does anyone know if LWX is considering postponing the upgrade until after the weekend? It was not postponed as the upgraded started today. http://www.erh.noaa.gov/lwx/dualpol_upgrade.php The upgrade takes about a week and the teams are on a schedule as every radar is being upgraded to dual-pol. At least the LWX area has several terminal doppler radars for coverage.
wxmeddler
Dual-pol is up for AKQ, looks like they are still going to need to have to work out filtering issues. BOX and DOX also had this issue but they've been slowly resolving it. You can see the outline of the area quite nicely without overlays.

wxmeddler
I've got Level3 at home, will that be updated too? Yes, Mr. Gibson has been developing GR3 2.0 for awhile now and is close to completion. However Mr. Gibson's father just died in the last few days so the release date has been pushed back indefinitely. Here's a little teaser though:
