IsentropicLift
Even the 12z NAM was not warm enough per the current temps. I just stepped outside for a minute and I have to say it feels like the middle to end of April. The sun also feels way too strong to be February 1st. SnoSki14
It is pretty historic. But it's not the end all torches, yes records are broken and it's very warm but there have been warmer times in January so the language is a bit dramatic. I will say though we were very close to the record. KNYC's February 1st record high was 67 in 1989. KNYC got to 64 today.

Jefflaw77
someone let me know the next time KNYC breaks a record low in either December, January or Feb..... When is the last time that happened?? All we ever hear about are record highs... It's unreal that each year, year in and year out, there are a zillion record highs, every month of the year.. The last time NYC had a very cold winter was what, 03/04? - even then- how many record lows were there?

January 2004's average temp was 24.7 I believe in Central Park, something like 6 or 7 below normal. That's definitely a cold month however you slice it. ict1523
It is hideously warm outside. I wish i was in poland, after having a record warm and dry start to winter (warsaw has recorded less snow than nyc to date), they are experiencing a severe cold snap and temps are expected to drop to -20 in some areas. MJO812
The big PNA ridge that the models had a couple of days ago is now gone. The euro ensembes continue to look like dog poo and the NAO doesn't look like it will go negative. This has been the same theme this winter. What a terrible winter.
