It is entertaining, but moderating a forum is much more effective when it is consistant. Sudden bursts of activity often lead to unnecessary drama.

Just because I have not posted much over the past month does not in any way mean I have been inactive. I will admit, it has been difficult at times keeping up with all the reports from the SE sub. I handle several everyday, today I am already at 6. I have been reading, cleaning up crap posts along the way, and handing out seats on the bench to habitual offenders. So to say this is a sudden burst of activity is not entirely correct. Do I really have to remind everyone constantly on what is ok and what is not? Consistent or not, hammer is coming down so clean the wx-thread posts up, or I will.

A list of excuses, a whine or two then ending with a threat usually isn't effective either. You're the boss though, and at this point I will quietly bow out of this discussion. Mod on.

I agree. WeatherNc sure hasn't turn out to be the moderator that we thought he would. Just like the Srain and Midlo idiots that come in and do a drive by to stroke their egos. It says a lot about these peoples self esteem. It's rather sad really.

Being a moderator on this forum is like going on a suicide mission. This is why I still personally believe Brick Tamland should be one.

Wow, stroking egos, kind of a classic. Sorry I do not have hours to spend on here every day right now, absence of winter and a semester off school has allowed me some much needed time to get things done around the homestead, and spend time with the wife and son. I have been a mod for what, 4 months, not sure what you/we were expecting but it is what it is, not going to please everyone, and not going to try. The absence of winter this year has thrown some for a mental loop, kind of entertaining to watch even though many were bracing for a screw. Have things really digressed to the point where we are slinging insults at each other, seriously?

We have finally gotten to the root of the problem. With all due respect, that is what a mod needs to realize is necessary to be effective, hopefully before accepting the position. Your priorities are certainly correct. Wife and kids #1, school #2 and AmWX somewhere below. Perhaps it was a bad time to take on the job.

Maybe... you shouldn't visit amwx if you disagree with their policies or moderating decisions.

Just in the past ~ 24hrs, whether you see me post or not, I am on several times a day, every day, have been since I took the position, but I am not going to sit here and hold hands incase you were wondering. I have no ego to bolster, I try to be objective and fair minded, and my esteem is just fine as is. Thanks

:)

OK look. I made no comments about your ego or self esteem so I don't appreciate your quoting my post to make it seem that I made that sort of comment. My post was respectful and only addressed demands on your time issues.

I'm saddened by some of the posts that I have been seeing recently. This winter seems to be bringing out the worst in some folks; moreso than I have ever seen during the past 2 years since I joined on Easternwx and moved onto here. Course, that's not taking into account how bad it likely got before I joined so I can't imagine to what extent it managed to reach. Mods are only doing their job to see to it that we don't have unnecessary/rude posts cluttering in the threads. I appreciate how hard WeatherNC has worked on trying to be a good mod, and I'm sure when Lookout isn't around that some of us are glad to have someone to take his place. Being a person that has joined quite a few forums throughout the years, I always hate to see one that hasn't been straightened out to the point where it makes it look awful compared to the rest, giving it a bad name. Had this winter been like the past two, we would really need some people to keep things in check I'm sure so adding on another one will aid with that issue whenever it arrives, and of course for any portion of the year when the board suddenly gets active. If this weekend threat does materialize into something wintry, we'll definitely need at least a couple of mods (aside from those who were made temporary) at work to keep the discussions flowing in the right direction instead of being derailed. I know that at one point, the Farmer's Almanac forum was so bad with the personal attacks and such that it was shut down until further notice. That was the first time I ever witnessed that and it stayed that way for several months. Most posters who caused that mess were banned after the forum was brought back, save for a few that were given a second chance (or so I've heard).

My advice: If you don't like how mods handle things and/or disagree with the rules, then you should just not post. Read and pay attention to the more decent/knowledgeable members and then if you feel comfortable enough, you can start posting without worry. That is what I always tend to do on forums before I make an account on them so as to avoid issues with the admins/mods.

Tough job, now way to please everyone. Don't try to imo, just do what you think is necessary and carry on. Not sure how being a mod of a weather forum could actually boost someone's ego?? Stay objective and fair minded is all you can do. Some folks really take this stuff too personal and some never get the hints thrown at them to chill out, makes me wonder how they really are in real life?

Keep up the good work!

ok, i'm so sorry, but i just can't keep my mouth shut...your post just made me bust out hysterically laughing, and made me realize i'm so glad that mods do VOLUNTEER their time to keep this place free from trashy comments and idiots like you...

Gotta love how some on the mid/longe range thread are saying next weekend looks optimistic for snow, and others say it looks terrible. I'm not buying anything this so-called winter until I actually see snow falling.

Well we do have an invest in the gulf on Feb 5. That is a lot less likely than a late season southern snowstorm so I guess there is hope.

well, i'm leaning towards early season storms being bad juju...be it tropical, or blizzard...we all know how that October Nor'Easter sure set up an epic winter in NE...

if we went from an epic bust of a winter, right to an epic bust of the tropical season, can you imagine the mental state of some of the hardcore posters???

First, I made the post in November - almost three months ago. Not sure why it is an issue now. At the time it was relevant. Many other forecasts were pinned, his was not. I felt it was poor etiquette not to post a red tagger's forecast. Next time, if you have a question about my posting etiquette please PM me.

And my bad for not realizing it was three months old to start with. I just noticed the thread was current and saw your post about 3 back from the end and just assumed it was current too. My bad. Did mean to get you in trouble too! :(
