February Banter Thread

So let me get this straight? Your reasoning for it's chances being low are because of a TV forecast almost 7 days away?:banned:

No, but also because others here have said the odds are against it, and this winter has been terrible as far as snow chances go. It just seems a big difference between the talk here and the local forecast. Like I said, I know they are conservative this far out, but that seems to be a big difference. A lot will have to happen to really make this a reality.

I guess everyone has to be an expert here and not just someone who really enjoys following the weather in regards to snow, severe storms, and hurricanes.

Yea, that's kind of the rule for this place when posting in the model threads. You at least have to grasp some basic understanding which you claim you do. Glad to see you take up my challenge.

An Atlanta weekend met nailed the blizzard a week out. It can happen, lol. Of course, that was the greatest nail I ever saw nailed :)

Still, a week out, with a track that needs to be in Fla. and sparse cold near by, I'm liking the chances :) T

At the very least Brick, you have hopefully figured out this thread for "banter" is the right place for "banter"..............

The banter thread never came about until our Brick started posting.

The banter thread is sorta like my Boston Terrier's crate... "Go to your room..." :lmao:

I like my chances enough to get lunch to go so I can track the Euro...let's hope that WRAL isn't a hammer expert. Now I'm curious to know how the UKMet looked for those outside N. GA.

Well, it would be nice if people actually talked about weather here and not use this thread for another off-topic forum.

I just dont understand it... youve been following on here for what seems like a decade... have you not picked up on some weather knowledge yet? As in just seeing the basics of the modeling?

Brick they do, it's in the mid/long range disco and the storm threads. You just don't understand it. Which goes back to my other post... there is no understanding.

Therefore the Banter thread is a Brickville, USA where you are the Mayor.

Enjoy!

You basically made the exact same post in this thread that you did in the model thread. Why make two posts saying the same thing if you thought one belonged in the banter thread?

Because of what I said with people treating this like an off-topic thread instead of a weather banter thread. It's kind of hard to figure out where exactly it is ok to post around here when some folks post banter in the non-banter thread and it being ok, and others taking this place way too seriously and acting like they are a mod.

Yes, I have. But I just make general observations about the models and the forecasts and what has happened before. I don't see why that is so bad. I just enjoy the snow, and the excitement of severe weather and hurricanes. And I was just making an observation on how different the discussion here is with the local forecast for this weekend. All I am saying is things would have to go just right for there to be snow here, and that hardly happens. Most people don't even know there is a chance if they just looked at their local forecast. I think the difference between the two are pretty funny and amazing.

you cant just generalize a winter and say we havent had snow so it cant happen now when this setup is unlike any weve had all winter, the NAO is finally slightly negative, and the mjo phase is in our favor..... also, using TV mets as references 7 days out is just...........

I didn't say it couldn't happen. I said it probably won't. It usually doesn't in cases like this when we have to thread the needle to get snow.

I have seen plenty of times when the models and forecasts showed snow, and we didn't get anything. I have also seen plenty of times when the models and forecasts didn't call for much snow and we got a bunch. The truth is you never really know what you will get around here when it comes to snow. I guess the fun is in finding out if the models and forecasts are wrong or right.

Good man, I'm glad your priorities are in place :) Looks like the guidance was just a few days off back last week. Not the big storm it was, and the cold your storm brought in isn't entrenched like I'd hoped but we still have a chance tonight, and the future has possibilities. I think td's are the hope down here tonight....for at least some spattering of sleet at onset. I'd like to see some clouds coming in to cap this heat that's building.

This weekend coming..well, lots of time to get things in line, but it is a chance we haven't had this winter. I don't think it will be the last either, but I'm an optimist until the Masters..always. And if worst comes to worst...I look to gain some much needed rains. T

I'm trying really, REALLY, REALLLLLLLLLLLY hard to not get excited about a possible storm this weekend. Just one freaking, little, one day storm is all I want so I don't have to say this has been the worst winter of my life!

Okay back to your regular scheduled banter programming.....

It would be nice to see some snow, but I don't think 1 to 2 inches of snow would make up for the rest of winter. Need at least 6 inches of snow to make it seem worthwhile.

Beggers can't be choosy or else you really aren't too upset about the lack of winter. Would a starving homeless person turn their nose at a bite of food because it isn't enough to make them completely full? If the answer to that question is yes then I'd say the begger wasn't really that hungry.
