Amazing how much of an impact downsloping is having right now. We're getting light snow (moderate at times) for the most part here in State College, and with the wind, accumulations are hard to come by. Just a wind-whipped dusting on everything (that wasn't still snowcovered from Wednesday's snow). Meanwhile, not far to the north and south, per radar, snow has been dumping for a while now. :P

Also to the east as well, Seven Mountains region looks like a pretty rough drive.

Between here and Philipsburg and east of State College are going to pile up some snow.

Radar presentation really interests me, the intense snow just runs that seven mountains ridgeline and doesn't get past the Centre-Huntingdon/Mifflin county line. The overall area of enhanced snow isn't really in an area your extremely used to seeing in these situations. SPC mesoanalysis revealed a couple things, the region of snow conincides with the area where 850 and 925 are currently falling steeply as well as residing where there is some convergence.

Yea, looks like its regenerated a bit. It certainly doesn't look like it has aspirations of jumping Skytop and heading over to State College though. NIce to see what a little bit of legit arctic air can do around here with the right dynamics. Here's CTP's near term update, you folks towards Harrisburg might be getting into the action as well this evening.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 4 AM SUNDAY MORNING/...

A POCKET OF VERY STEEP...925-700 MB LAPSE RATES OF GREATER THAN

7C/KM WAS SITUATED OVER THE SUSQ MAINSTEM AND WEST BRANCH

VALLEYS AT 23Z...ASSOCIATED WITH A POOL OF 700 MB TEMPS OF -18 TO

-20C. THIS INSTABILITY/VERY COLD AIR ALOFT WAS SUPPORTING A LARGE

AREA OF SNOW SHOWERS AND EMBEDDED SQUALLS THAT WERE CREATING

WHITE-OUT CONDITIONS FOR 10-20 MINUTES...AND BRINGING SNOWFALL

RATES/ACCUMULATIONS OF NEARLY 2 INCHES PER HOUR.

A FEW REPORTS OF AROUND 3 INCHES WERE RECEIVED OVER THE PAST FEW

HOURS FROM THE WILLIAMSPORT AREA AND ADJACENT WEST BRANCH

TOWNS...WHERE THE HEAVIEST/MOST PERSISTENT SQUALLS WERE OCCURRING.

THIS AREA OF SNOW WILL CONTINUE TO DRIFT TO THE SE AT 20-25 MPH

AND SPREAD ANOTHER 1-3 INCHES OF WIND WHIPPED SNOW OVER THE REST

OF THE MID SUSQ VALLEY AND ERN MTNS...AND PERHAPS DOWN TO THE

HARRISBURG LEBANON AREAS. YORK...LANCASTER AND ADAMS COUNTIES IN

THE FAR SE WILL LIKELY SEE A COATING TO ONE INCH OF NEW SNOW

BETWEEN 8-11 PM.

WILL CONTINUE TO COVER THIS AREA OF SQUALLS WITH SPECIAL WEATHER

STATEMENTS...HIGHLIGHTING THE VERY POOR VSBYS AND TREACHEROUS

DRIVING CONDITIONS. MOST PLACES IN THE PATH OF THE CURRENT

SQUALLS WILL SEE NEW SNOWFALL OF 1 TO 2 INCHES.

Pawatch, do you know if there's been any specific traffic tie ups?? My sister is trying to come home from Jersey Shore...and says its terrible up that way.

The only thing I heard was some wrecks on 44N. And the beltway bridges around the Port was pretty slick. Traffic tie ups was further east.

Just got done pushing some snow with my tractor.

Wow, topographical effects really a killer here in State College with winds perpendicular to the mountains.

Take a look at the radar from a little bit ago... I put it in a gif alternating between the radar and topography. ouch! :weep:

The radar all night has been a textbook example of how I end up with more snow overall than UNV. As of right now, there's a band sitting over 99. We are getting that. It's been light to moderate snow all night, moderate when the band expanded enough to get us. It's been going back and forth all night.

Not sure how much I have. The wind is really whipping it around, was out walking the dog. The wind kicks up and creates greatly reduced visibility on 322 here in town due to snow coming off roof.
