Thanks....figured I'd have fun with our Willamsport friend, poor snowless bastard.

So, why is NWS CTP so bullish on the snow this weekend?

They only have the heavy snow wording in to account for possible snow squalls. They say a coating to an inch in the valleys, which sounds pretty realistic. A coating to an inch that will stick to everything...

Okay, I am so confused what is going on with this Saturday snow talk? I thought it was just going to be snow showers with the cold front, what is this I hear of a coastal?

Models creating more phasing. We get some light snow with first wave and some from a upper level low. 2-4" over southern pa this run with higher amounts in mountains.

The past couple runs have tried to phase a wave along the southern stream with the energy of the front to then bring a low up the coast. Currently still a miss east but if wave is able to phase sooner there could be legit talk for accumulating snow. The models really didn't get a good grip on yesterdays event until within 48 hours so it will be interesting to see what 12z Euro and the 0z runs tonight try to do.

Eric Horst's (Millersville University) latest update regarding this weekend, posted just a few minutes ago.

Noon Friday update:

A big "thank you" goes out to all of our snowfall reporters! Looks like areas south of Route 30 had a coating to 1 inch, while the northern part of Lancaster county got 1 to 2 inches. The higher snowfall totals (2 to 4 inches) fell just a few counties to our north and west.... If you felt jipped, you have another good chance of getting 1 to 4 inches of snow Friday night into Saturday. It's a complex set up, but here's how I see things coming together...

A strong Arctic front will cross the Commonwealth on Saturday, but ahead of this front a significant plume of Gulf moisture will surge northward across the region Friday night. If the Arctic front and the Gulf moisture phased completely, we'd get 6-inch-plus snowfall. More likely, however, these two systems will move through separately. The first will bring a light rain-snow mix Friday evening that will turn over to a period of steadier snow overnight. 1 to 2 inches is the best bet with this first system. By midday Saturday, the Arctic front will be entering the Susquehanna Valley from the west. An intense squall line is likely to organize with this front, so I expect a couple hours of snow early Saturday afternoon. With the frontal passage, the snow may fall heavily for a short time--combine this with increasing winds and falling temperatures, and it could be kind of wild a little while. Flurries and snow showrs will linger into Saturday night as temps drop into the teens. Sunday will be very cold with highs in the 20s and wind chills in the single and teens.

"Looks like Wmsptwx has thrown the red flag to challenge the ruling on the board that he proved he was actually right for once....let's look at the tape"

"Well, Al, I think he got more than a dusting, he got .8. That's more than a dusting, clearly. Not Snowmaggedon, but still off."

"Cris, do we count easternwx's report of over 3 inches as officially the highest? "

"Al, he's so big of a weenie he's like a dachshund on steroids, but Cashtown in Adams County did get a report of 3.2. Still though, that dusting...c'mon."

"Looking at qpf numbers for UNV, they got .23 qpf and about two inches of snow. That's a good call about thicker cloud cover but he said the ground would eat up half of it. That's what he said, Cris, so he's wrong here."

"Yeah, Al."

"Well, Al, this is inconclusive because 'half of a flake' might have been a reference to some of the posters in the NYC subforum."

"Okay, now here comes the referee stormtracker with the official call"

"Upon further review, nothing wmsptwx said leading up to what was an okay event in this lame-ass winter was correct. Therefore the call on the board stands - he's a weenie dumbass and should be thankful we like him so he doesn't get a five-post penalty."

DAMN THAT'S HATEFUL!

Let's be honest though, 1 to 3 inches is nothing to get excited about. I know I'm a weenie and gladly accept it. But doesn't getting excited over an inch of snow just as bad lol.

No reason to bring your personnel business into this.. :jerry:

only kidding

the weekend looks a little dryer then it did earlier, or is it me?

Hahahahaha....good one. But back to my point, I can see skiers maybe being excited for any snow. As a weather nerd though, I like more dynamic and interesting storms.

The problem is, in a winter like this, you can't wait for those. Gotta take what you can get.

I keep telling you - follow this creed:

Keep your expectations tiny, then you won't be so whiny.
