bluewave
The models are moving toward a rise in the PNA for early February. This amplification of the ridge out west looks similar to the one that we saw back in early January. It was around this time that NYC saw its coldest temperatures for the month of January. It looks like the 11-15 day time frame could see the coldest temperatures for the month in actual terms and relative to the means. The month of February during La Nina years since 2000 have featured a similar pattern. The temperature usually warms up several days later to around 50 degrees or higher. This is something that has also been the pattern that we have experienced so far this winter. These are the similar dates and temperatures for NYC since 2000: 2/9/11...29...11 2/14/11..58...37 2/5/09...23...12 2/8/09...58...38 2/11/08..24..10 2/13/08..54...31 2/12/01...35..16 2/13/01...49..32 2/8/00..31...19 2/11/00..51...
