psv88
Yeah, over 12 hours of snow! When did it stop there? it just stopped in garden city about 20 min ago...was snowing HARD at like 6 am
psv88
Sound effect snow later? ODELS IN DECENT AGREEMENT WITH AN UPPER LOW ROTATING NORTH OF THE REGION TODAY...WITH ANOTHER SHORTWAVE ROTATING UP TOWARDS THE REGION THIS EVENING. WIDESPREAD LIGHT TO MODERATE SNOW SHOULD GRADUALLY COME TO AN END TOWARDS DAYBREAK AS SHORTWAVE AXIS MOVES NORTH OF THE AREA. BUT WITH DEEP CYCLONIC FLOW...UPPER TROUGH AXIS STILL OVER THE REGION AND ARCTIC AIR STILL INFILTRATING WOULD EXPECT MOSTLY CLOUDY TO CLOUDY SKIES AND SCATTERED FLURRIES TO CONTINUE THROUGH THE DAY. BETTER CHANCE THIS AFTERNOON ACROSS EASTERN ZONES AS NEXT SHORTWAVE PIVOTS UP. ALSO COULD SEE A SOUND EFFECT/ENHANCED BAND OF SNOW SHOWERS LINING UP ACROSS THE EASTERN SOUTH FORK TODAY AS WIND TRAJECTORY AND TEMP DIFFERENTIAL BECOMES FAVORABLE. SOME HINTS OF THIS ALREADY. bluewave
that actually makes perfect sense to what we have all observed. Massapequa and levittown are in southeast nassau, the line then goes nw over my house in albertson/roslyn...and garden city is just south of that swath, missing out on the green...pretty crazy to see how much that verified Yeah, an inch on the grass here in Long Beach with a low of 19 degrees this morning. A-L-E-X
NYC had 2.8" in 72-73, not a trace. lol by his wording I can tell he meant that he is glad we dont whiff this winter and thereby break the record.
eyewall
There are not many side roads there, and that area floods when it is mostly sunny. That is a good point. I also remember how bad the ponding was on 110 when I worked in Farmingdale just after high school. I check in here as I am a former Long Islander (grew up in West Islip). Also my friend SBUWX23 is up there now.

Should pull a roughly -15 for the day. was just going to post something about this. At 151 it is 22 and probably going nowhere higher, poss 23. At minimum that makes for a -16 departure because our early morning low was 19 and we'll likely do even better than that. That means this was in fact MORE than 5 degrees colder than our coldest day last week, so for all the naysayers who thought this cold shot was weak, well the low 20's high at CPK begs to differ. No December day in the last 5 years at least has had a high below 24 (24 is the lowest, funny enough, on this same day in 2005). Unlike 2005 though, the blowtorch from hell does not begin tomorrow. Besides 12/14/05, only a few other days have had highs in the 20s, and all 27+. & yes, with NYC at 22 still as of 2PM, the high should be 23 or lower, which is incredible for December standards. Nikolai
As of 3PM NYC is still at 22 degrees. I think it's safe to say we've maxed out at either 22 or 23. Can anyone go back and see when the last December day with a high this low or lower was? I'm going to guess it'll be at least back to 2000. Sundog
Not bad at all...record lows tonight? Winds might prevent that. Plus a lot of our record lows are already in the single digits so unlikely.
Nikolai
Winds might prevent that. Plus a lot of our record lows are already in the single digits so unlikely. Max was 23, must have been inter-hour. Right now we're pulling a -17, but we'll hopefully get below 19 by midnight.
Fantom X
ended up with 1.5" of snow here. 24.9 was the 'daytime' high here - although it was 25.7 at midnight so that will count as the daily high. Although i am a fan of the snow - this cold has caused us to use heating oil a lot quicker this past few weeks. I put 61 gallons in (which came to 1/4 tank) the Monday before Thanksgiving and as of today, i am a hair above Empty. Wasn't planning on putting more oil in until new years but looks like i'll have to scrape up some cash to buy more oil. I'm hoping for my wallets sake that this cold lets up soon

Coldest high in December 2000 was 27 degrees. Today is one of the coldest December days in many many years. Coldest since 12/14/2007 when the high was 24 at NYC. Also had a 23 degree high on 12/20/1995. The last time NYC recorded a high below 23 degrees was 20 degrees back on 12/27/1993.
