Rtd208
Certainly something to keep an eye on, while I am not to optimistic I still think it would be prudent to watch it closely, could wind up being a nowcasting event.
winterwx21
Remember temps are gonna be above freezing during the afternoon hours tomorrow. It would take more than light snow to get sticking at coastal areas during the afternoon hours. People seem to be ignoring the temps.

Just need precip.
winterwx21
No, evap cooling, low sun angle and frozen ground. Just need precip. Would need some moderate snow to get the evap cooling to get it down to freezing during the afternoon hours tomorrow. If it just a brushing of light snow, temps would be above freezing and it would have trouble sticking except for colder surfaces.
Ericjcrash
If I hear a sun angle argument on the shortest day of the year.... Yeah thats what I'm saying.
winterwx21
If I hear a sun angle argument on the shortest day of the year.... I'm not saying anything about the sun angle. Just with temps expected above freezing during the afternoon hours tommorow, very light snow would have trouble sticking. That's all. If the storm comes close enough to bring better than light snow, then you would get the evaporational cooling and there wouldn't be a problem. I was in atlantic city on thursday and light snow was sticking to the roadways from 12-3pm. And that's AC, right on the water. Also, there is evap cooling with any precipitation. The air temp will wet bulb down even with virga, more so obviously with light snow.

LIsevereWX
Perhaps there is 1 or 2 more west shifts left. I'm calling in a favor to the snow gods In all seriousness with the way things have gone with this storm, I would not be surprised to see another shift west. But what do I know...I'm just a

Another 50-100 mile shift west can put NYC and Nassau County in the 2"-3" range. and Suffolk Conty higher.

ict1523
I'll take flurries. I don't care. As long as there are a few flying.
WeatherFox
I'll take flurries. I don't care. As long as there are a few flying. Close but not close enough for NYC. Snow flurries are in the forecast and I won't be disappointed if more than flurries materialize. Way out on Long Island has a higher probability for snow showers. ARyan
I'd be surprised if there is more than 50 mile shift, even that would be a lot, simply due to the fact that the shortwave was sampled really well tonight. But we'll see how everything plays out tomorrow...
Matt Hammer
This radar is already looking interesting this morning. I wouldn't completely rule out flurries for Eastern Long Island by late morning just yet! Clearly, any better snow bands on Eastern Long Island would be concentrated to this evening and tonight. Thoughts??
SnowGoose69
Looking at the observations on ADDS there is clearly NNW winds in NJ and NE winds over NYC/LI...that would be where some sort of inverted trough might be setup, but its not inducing anything yet if its really there,
SACRUS
Should being seeing some snow showers soon across parts of NJ even into NYC (later) close but no swow-gar. We'll be siging a different tune in less than a week
nzucker
Impressive streak of cold temperatures since the last cutter...these highs and lows look as if they were taken from a cold January, not early December. Here's the stretch I'm referring to: 12/19: 33.5, 23.4 12/18: 35.9, 24.1 12/17: 34.5, 18.6 12/16: 29.3, 21.1 12/15: 24.9, 17.7 12/14: 22.4, 17.5 Snowfall: 1.5" Not a bad start to winter in terms of the temperature regime but I wish we were a bit whiter. So i went to Huntington Harbor sat night, and saw the entire harbor was frozen over....this is on the north shore of western suffolk...this harbor is rather narrow so it freezes pretty often in late january/Feb/ but i have NEVER seen it freeze this early...even more interesting, the GREAT SOUTH BAY was starting to freeze along the northern shoreline by the Robert moses causeway... Has anyone else ever seen the bays/harbors freeze this early?

tmagan
Many towns in SE MA / Cape Cod reporting over 10 inches of snow (with more to come) from the offshore system...was a close call and a tough one to miss out on for Long Islanders... Theoretically, it is possible that by next Monday, KDCA and KBOS can have double digit snowfall for the year with KNYC remaining at a very low number.
