Valdez is getting close to their all-time records...

"The winter of 1989-90 is in the record books as the snowiest winter ever for Valdez with a total of 560.7 inches (46 feet) of snowfall. A daily record was set on January 16, 1990 with 45.7 inches of snowfall in just 24 hours!. And on January 17, 1990 a new snow depth record of 107 inches was set in Valdez."

Yep...it's remarkable. It's never a question of whether there will be a lot snow on the ground this time of year...it's just how deep will it be!

  • 4 weeks later...

Spring is finally arriving in Valdez...temps well into the 40s the past few days. Today's normal high is 42.

Snow depth is decreasing quickly...down to 72".

After a ton of snow in Dec-.Feb., March and April have had relatively little snow. The seasonal snowfall stands at 432.5". That's probably good for a Top 5 season, but nowhere near the ~550" in 1990-91.
