dendrite
I may steal this analogy for my blog lol. Perfect. Kevin things his sugar is going to pile up at 25:1. I always like to use that one when explaining it.I'll add that...unlike tree branches snow crystals are delicate ice crystals so those picture perfect dendrites have their crystal structure break down with time. The big culprits are wind and the weight of new snow on top of itself. That's why BUF can get an 80" LES storm and only achieve a 40" max snow depth. If you topped 2" of fluff with 50% of Pete's hair you'd get compression city. Top it with 50% of Kevin's hair and your fluff is safe.
40/70 Benchmark
As Will noted, snow growth is not great....kind of harkens back to Dec 13, 2007....in the sense that makes up for it some by coming down at a pretty good rate. Just eyeballing, looks like about .5" down. 15.6\10 12/16/07? (the Thursday event) Wrong event....that one had great snowgrowth and took place on Sunday.
