Rjay
Yea tell me about it. Definitely miss w Suffolk and queens even Nassau has done well in my opinion the last decade or so. Got shafted today tho. I live in Merrick. I got 1.9 inches of snow, then sleet and freezing rain made it very crusty outside.

uncle W
Do you mean four inches or more? yea...it happened a few times... before 1991 the record snow on this date was 2.1" set in 1938...Since then we got 2.4" in 1991...6.0" in 2001...4.2" in 2011 and 4.3" this year...We went over a 100 years without a 4" snowfall on this date and now we have three in eleven years and two in a row... IsentropicLift
Had a real busy day so sorry for the late report, when I left home at 12:00 I still had moderate snow and about 5.5" on the ground. When I got to EWR it changed over to sleet right on 21. Then I hit flurries on the way home at 4:00. Total here about 6".
Guest Pamela
Can some one explain how and why no matter the type of event why a super band always sets up just north of the coast and sorta shadows it.. And Nassau county gets the sh-t end of the stick so often.. Its amazing.. There was a notable north / south difference in snow across Nassau yesterday...Bayville, in the extreme north, saw 5.3", while much of the S. Shore was closer to 2.0" Besides the points made by the poster from Long Beach (lack of orographic lift, etc), I think much of that southern area is hurt by the stabilizing effects of the ocean...we usually note this in summer...when the nearby water discourages instability and the development of cumulonimbus clouds...but it also serves as a factor in winter...stabilizing the air...and the more land you have, the more opportunity you have for sort of squeezing moisture out of the air through the the effects of frictional contact.
