RU848789
tewr radar is picking up on these widely scattered snow showers. Some individual ones are quite potent. Have had a very nice little snow shower going on here for the last 10-15 minutes - put down close to another 1/4" of snow, which would bring my total for this storm to 3.5" and for the season to 8.5". For such a lousy winter, that's not horrible.

Snowshack
I can confirm some light snow is coming through here in western suffolk.. Despite only getting about 3.5" of snow.. I believe this is was one of our better events over the past several years... It was your run of the mill snowstorm - some places did pretty well and i am sure others feel like they got jipped.. It's cold out and everything is white and it's not that hard to shovel... Can't ask for better situation... One of our better events over the past several years?? Did you mean months? Jefflaw77
One of our better events over the past several years?? Did you mean months? No, I mean years... I realize we had many events that were unreal over the last few years.. but this event felt like your typical old fashioned snowstorm... 3-8" generally - region wide... Roads were white and dangerous... This is what this region USUALLY gets.. Not the insane storms that we've as of late.. Plus, the best snows occurred in the daylight hours and on a saturday so most of us could simply enjoy it... Just my opinion..

The daylight snowfall was nice, seems like it had been a while since the bulk of a storm occured during the day, and the cold surface temps were also a plus. Nothing wrong with it at all! Mr Torchey
The landscape has been cleansed by 8" of champagne powder, solid snowstorm, and I was lucky enough to get into the band. Enjoy this evening no matter how much you received/.

Jefflaw77
Can some one explain how and why no matter the type of event why a super band always sets up just north of the coast and sorta shadows it.. And Nassau county gets the sh-t end of the stick so often.. Its amazing..

For such a lousy winter, that's not horrible. After this post, we had a lull and then a 2nd seriously heavy snow shower - heaviest snow of the storm with big flakes - and picked up slightly more than 1/4" in about 15 minutes, bringing our total to 3.75" for the storm. jm1220
Can some one explain how and why no matter the type of event why a super band always sets up just north of the coast and sorta shadows it.. And Nassau county gets the sh-t end of the stick so often.. Its amazing.. Usually because of better frontogenesis up there between cold air inland and warm air advancing from the south. Also, orographics usually help. The hilly terrain often aids in the lift. Whenever the coastal nor'easters form, it's usually a crap shoot where the bands set up, but almost always there's a heavier band that sets up over southern NY, northern NJ, or parts of CT. The best example is 12/26/10 when so many in eastern NJ got nailed, but there are numerous other ones too like in the Oct storm when much of northern NJ, southern NY and western CT got nailed. Here on the coast, we often have to rely on the storm's dynamics as it bombs offshore, and what banding pivots back east.
