earthlight
How do you always manage to be at the right spot for a snowstorm, t-storm, etc? I took a chance and came up to a buds house and it worked out perfectly. Total coincidence. But I love this. Missed this scene so much. It has been too long. donsutherland1
Four photos from this morning. Although it's not a lot of snow (around 2" at present), it sure beats bare ground swept by endless springlike breezes.
Alpha5
Must really be ripping up by Bridgeport, White Plains. Someone there might walk away with 8 inches. Im just on the southern edge of that band and its really not that great. Its moderate snow, but snow growth is pretty poor
FPizz
Looks like that backbuilding is like 4 miles to my nw

jm1220
how about 1.5 vs 5? Im not upset but just disapointed. The bands tend to always setup to my NW. There's almost always, like 95% of the time, a band that sets up by where Earthlight lives in NJ, or up in SE NY. It probably has to do with better frontogenesis up there, and some added lift from the hilly terrain. It sucks sometimes watching it from here, but what can you do? I'm just happy to finally have a snow deep enough to cover the grass and shovel. I was never really expecting anything more than that here. It's a winter seasonal reminder, nothing more. Regardless, everyone's snow will be long gone in 72 hours.
SnowDemon
I've got about 4.5". Snow still pounding with huge flakes.
psv88
Around 2.5 here....you can see no plowing was needed, just salt as the snow intensity was low for the most part. My totals will be doubled and tripled north and west Light snow, 25.

patrick05
hello boys (and girls? are there any of those on here?)-- i've been lurking here for years (first on eastern, now on american), but have never posted, because, frankly, i've never really felt i had much to add to the conversation. and i still don't. but as i sit here (in bklyn) staring out the window at the beautiful white fluffiness, i thought it was time i chimed in. first of all, it's been great to discover that there are other weather freaks out there as obsessed as i am (growing up in the 70s without internet or cable, i used to get my fix by calling the weather every hour--my parents thought i was having an affair with the weather lady). secondly, i want to thank you all for teaching me so much about the science (and art?) of meteorology. i'm just a hobbyist with no background in the field, so it's been fun to learn lots of cool meteorological phrases with which to impress my friends ("arctic oscillation," "high-latitude blocking," and my new favorite "significant stratospheric warming event." finally, a question about this storm: it seems like once the models caught on a couple days ago that a storm was coming, they were pretty consistent in their solutions (from model to model and from run to run). i'm wondering why that is. does it have something to do with the relative lack of dynamics with this system that makes the physics easier for the models to handle? thanks again, and enjoy the snow... j welcome to the forum!! also mind sharing some snow totals from your backyard??
