1-3,2-4 and 3-6 inches are normal around here instead of those 12 + storms. People should really be happy that we are having snow because the pattern isn't that good for snow.

It's all because since December 2009, we got 7 KU since then. I agree, this is a normal event for us and it's wonderful to see.

...what about the rising temps, william??.its gonna be a race to

the finish w/ regards to temps rising and the snow/precip. winding down..

Per the 12z NAM, while KNYC is reasonably dry after 1:00 PM (around 0.05 after)...Islip still gets 0.17,Upton 0.19, Westhampton 0.23, and Montauk 0.25....only problem might be a slight push of warm air @ 900 MB...but even there it barely breaks 0 C briefly before heading down again....fair chance some report from Long Island will come close to 7 or even 8 inches...

over the last 10 years it's happened a lot.

It did happen a lot over the last 10 years, but I made that post to compare it to last year's snow events which were mostly warmer than this one; even most of 09-10's snowstorms were warmer, and considering how most of this winter has been warmer than average a snowstorm with 20 degrees in the middle of the warmth is also impressive.

*someone get Sickman or earthlight in here to own that guy

there is a report button, lets all use that instead of screaming about it, me included, because this thread is about the storm, not him

anyway, im just south of that band, looks like the merrit parkway is getting slammed

no complaints here though, doing just fine, working on 4 inches.

There haven't been many happy endings this winter but this storm is definitely one of them. Many METS thought the models would trend north and warm things up giving us sleet/rain or all rain a few days ago and the opposite happened. Also it's not a marginal surface temp situation either, it's pretty darn cold for this one too so that's a plus.

09-10 was largely factored by Nino. Last year had colder storms than 09-10. However, if we had colder temps in 09-10, then the area would have probably gotten 10-20" more snow that season.
