It doesn't bother me but my sister, who is also my wife, hates stereotypes. :)

Meeting you is going to be one of the highlights of the trip. Your humor never ceases to amuse me. Bozart are you attending too?

Do we have rough count of who will be attending? Event starts around 2PM but arriving after 11AM is ok? I can't wait guys this should be quite a bit of fun!

There's a huge surrounded valley up the mountain from me, and I know the combination on the gate lock, just in case you want to bring your weapon... excuse me, shotgun, with you. I love the sound of shell fire when it echoes around the ridges. Just don't try to kill anything. There's no hunting on that property. And look out for the bears up there.

Originally we had 23 people who said they were coming. Eight have cancelled. We should still have about 25 people here, which is a good group. I don't think that Robert is coming. I never heard back. Hope that changes.....

I thought we would plan to eat between noon and one. Two is a little late when someone has been driving for four hours. I have lots of munchies to hold you over. Don't worry, we'll save you some food... No problem. A few people will be arriving later in the afternoon, anyway, and maybe even after 5. This is a very informal gathering, and people can go and come as they like, just in case they want to do a little sight seeing in the area. Feel free to roam..... I'll give you some suggestions.... Be safe....

Lord. Another southern stereotype.

Being the resident mathematician of the group (unofficially, of course), I just literally burst out laughing with jburns' comment.

Anyways, hope ya'll had fun up there today. Maybe next time for me...

It's been awfully quiet on these boards lately, but I guess that's due to not much happening. Enjoy the gardening. Spring has been beautiful here so far.

Thanks for having us at your home today Vann. I had a great time seeing some of the people I have been posting with for years. Great food! BTW I need to find out where you got those poppy seed Kaiser rolls. It's a shame more couldn't have come and enjoyed it. Lots of laughs and good fellowship.

post-1004-0-30563200-1333312532.jpgI really want to thank the six people who went out of their way to drive up here yesterday. Thanks for the cake, Troy (Acworth Wx), and I hope your boy scouts enjoy devouring it this week. I managed to get everyone in one photo. That's Troy, John (jburns), Pearson (Marietta Wx), Sean (Isopycnic), Vicki and Bryan (rduwx). We had an enjoyable time, and my neighbors will be the recipients of some great chicken and roast beef. The weather coorperated and it was a spectacular afternoon. Thank goodness for the Fat Tire beer. It lessoned the pain..... Such a shame that more people couldn't have shared in this rare opportunity to get to know one another.post-1004-0-56047500-1333312660.jpgpost-1004-0-46162400-1333312697.jpgpost-1004-0-61844200-1333312750.jpgpost-1004-0-80352600-1333312775.jpg

I might as well get this off my chest. Signing up for something and then just not showing up on the day of the event is, at the very least, extremely tacky. Vann went to considerable expense and had quite an impressive spread of many different delicious foods and drinks all laid out for an expected much larger group that failed to materialize. I'm not talking about those that had to cancel and let him know. Of course plans can change and several people canceled prior to the event which is fine. To just not show up when expected is not socially acceptable and the primary reason these kind of events are so rare.

i was a bit jealous of your g2g! us New England folks usually just have it in a bar/restaurant...and i't noisy and sometimes not enough room...

if lived within a days driving distance i would have been all over your g2g :)

it is a shame that more than a dozen people said they were going and then didn't bother to show up... :(

your place is beautiful :sun:

:( I soooo appreciate everything you have done for this get together  I was so very grateful you stepped up and offered to get this started, and so very disappointed when I found out I couldn't attend. This event has been circled, underlined, and highlighted on my calendar for months and I was not looking forward to having to wait another 10+ years for another opportunity to meet everyone. Everyone that came (with you added as host) was on my list of people I was looking forward to meeting and I'm glad you all had an awesome time. I'm just very sad I was not in those pictures enjoying myself with the se crew :(

 I'm very disappointed there wasn't a larger turn out.

Like others I had a great time and enjoyed meeting some of the people I have been posting w/ for years. Vann, thanks again for everything. You have a nice place there!

Vann lives in one of my favorite places to visit  I'm sure the food was fantastic, the company was amazing, and the view was awesome. I really hate that I missed everything and will wait patiently until the next gathering.....sigh

Really wish I could've been in two places this weekend, but was in Williamsburg, Va instead. Even though I never RSVP'd, I would have loved to go to this event...I was so jealous of those that were attending...considering a few dozen said they were going, right? Even at Busch Gardens in the back of my mind was how much fun you guys were having with no roller coasters, just good company and a great view.

Hats off to MM, what a class act and I hope this doesn't deter him from doing this again in the future.

All weekend long I was thinking the same thing

Looks like you all had a good time! It's always cool to see people that you've posted with for years.

If we have the same thing next year, I may be able to attend.

Will you be 21 by then? haha :lmao:

Great post and very warranted. Don't commit to something and then not show without letting the host know.

How about this, unless there is a good reason for not showing up after saying you will...we will just ban them if they don't. :gun_bandana:

Thanks for the moral support guys. Next time, people who say they are coming will be given a list of things they need to bring. Having that commitment will cause them to have a responsibility for showing up. I mean, if you say you're bringing the beer, and then don't show, you'll have a bunch of upset drunks who will deal with you accordingly. I think that people just assumed that everyone else was coming, and that they wouldn't be missed in such a large crowd. The problem was, EV ERYONE thought the same thing, so the large crowd never developed. A case of mob mentality. Next time will be very different. How about August?????

I'm game, I need to pick up the chair I left. Also, you still haven't told me where you got those poppy seed Kaiser rolls. I'm hoping it's a chain store and I can find one locally.
