It must have remained all snow on the west side earlier tonight. What a gradient. :D

0910 PM     SNOW             2 W WEST LAFAYETTE      40.44N 86.95W

01/20/2012  U2.5 INCH        TIPPECANOE         IN   PUBLIC

0850 PM     SNOW             WEST LAFAYETTE          40.44N 86.91W

01/20/2012  M2.1 INCH        TIPPECANOE         IN   TRAINED SPOTTER

NEW SNOW OVER PAST 2 HOURS...STORM TOTAL 2.2

Makes sense considering our varying obs. West side is the promised land. :)

All pingers here.. :axe:

Wife said she saw a few flashes.. Not sure if it was transformers or lightning..

Edit: Some areas are without power now around Lebanon..

I was at Denny's when the power went out. That place gets really dark without power.

I am gonna hate driving to work in the a.m.. I bet it is a total mess.

That's crazy...ha ha. I kind of thought Keener's post from earlier was strange...and he did mention hitting the liquor store. I guess not.

I guess this is payback for the east side for the late Nov event where the west side got sorta shafted.

2.7" so far at my place...might end up near 3-3.5 which will likely make my original 1-3" call a miss.

I was wondering when you made that call if you might be in danger of busting low. It looks like you will, but not by much. We're getting pounded down here and have avoided s***t so far. I will get up at 1 AM to take a 6 hour reading. Ity may be winding down by then.

I believe it. Snow is piling up at a decent clip now that the sleet has ended.

Yeah I made that forecast a couple of days ago and thought lack of blocking would cause a northward shift. lol....fail. Anyways, glad you are actually getting some real snow flakes down there. Nothing but needles/plates/crap up here. oh well.

It's been all snow here and a lot of it. Crazy gradient I guess? Weird.

Snow is very dense powder here, probably 10-1 ratio. It looks like sugar, and has about the consistency of it too. One of those snows where when you go to shovel it it piles up quickly as you are pushing the shovel, far cry from the easy fluffy powder. Thinking we end up with 2.5-3" of dense powder when all is said and done. A sledders dream snow, packed powder that will not settle much at all, and looks like we will at least meet model qpf, if not exceed it, but ratios are just not there.

Nuts. And fascinating. It was 80/20 sleet at times here earlier tonight...if not a bit greater. I'd get moments of all snow...big flakes, but then it would transition back. Been snowing like hell for the past hour or so here...so all is not lost.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE INDIANAPOLIS IN

1016 PM EST FRI JAN 20 2012

BUMPED SNOW AMOUNTS CLOSER TO 4 INCHES ACROSS THE NORTH...AND ICE ACCUMULATIONS UP TO A QUARTER OF AN INCH OVER THE SOUTH. DECIDED TO STAY WITH ADVISORY AND NOT UPGRADE TO WARNING. ANTICIPATE ICE ACCUMULATIONS TO COME RIGHT UP TO A QUARTER OF AN INCH...BUT NOT MUCH ABOVE IT. PLUS...WINDS WILL NOT BE STRONG...WHICH SHOULD REDUCE THE CHANCES FOR DOWNED TREES AND POWERLINES.
