Wonder if I will see that up here? I wouldnt say its pixie dust but flake size isnt that big. The air is just very full of flakes, love that foggy visibility look outside (knowing of course its snow, not fog lol).

It sounds weird too. Almost like sleet, although it's not... just incredibly quiet outside. Not even any wind. Other than the occasional plow, I've seen maybe 3 cars, and an ambulance go by in the last 3 hours.

LOT's take on Lake effect tonight:

Skilling's RPM showed the lake effect blowing in about 11pm for Lake County, IL., then going to NE Cook Co. Then hanging around well into tomorrow.

mesoanalysis shows convergence increasing over far NE Illinois but as LOT mentions i don't expect more than a quick hitting inch for anyone particular area.

I don't know. Granted it didn't start up too long ago, but it looked like all snow to me then.

And looks like it's mainly snow now. Razor thin edge I guess. :axe:

Yeah, there was a break in the pingers and it looked like 100% snow but then just now I heard another burst of sleet. Flip floppin'

Yeah but shouldn't visibilities be lower than 2.5 miles...if it was all snow...with the radar presentation as it is?

Eh, no reason to debate it I suppose.

Good point about the vis. I'm not sure what ASOS does...how much mixing does there have to be for it to report PL or UP.

All I can do when I look at the reports from around the area is lol. MKE recorded 1.8" of snow at the airport for the storm total, yet the six hour precip from noon to 6 was 0.21. Worse than 10:1 ratios on the northern edge of a cold system and 850 temps supposedly in the range of best dendritic snow growth FTL.

No idea. It is lolLAF after all.

Good point to you though about the DBZ's. I'm on the southeast side, smack dab in the middle of it right now.

Maybe the observer lowballed a bit? But you would think not since measuring in this setup is as easy as 2+2
