the cold surface temps at onset are making what is falling super high impact, still a couple hours to rush hour....disaster.

It's so cold here I see zero signs of melt, anyone who has salted was basically just pouring salt into snow.

Roads and sidewalks are completely covered despite the best efforts of snow clearing teams all over town, takes about 15 minutes for a surface to be solidly covered after they clear it. I think at least a few snow clearing teams have given up until tomorrow since it's getting quieter out there.

Yeah it's gonna be bad.  I brought up 2/6/07 earlier which this reminds me of in terms of temps/rates (although that one was even colder) and it was a total disaster around here so I can't imagine what it will be like in the congested metro.

People see 4-7" and probably think 'oh that's not too bad' but not all 4-7's are equal.

nice meso low type feature has developed just offshore from Zion, where a N/S convergence boundary just offshore from IL/WI meets an WSW/ENE convergence boundary that leads out over the lake.

HRRR is showing that feature lasting for hours, even after the main precip is done. Could be a big deal for stretch from Milwaukee to Chicago.
