Jan 19-20th Observations

Event totals: 2.2” Snow/0.09” L.E.

I was up, so I did a midnight analysis on the snow received at this location up to this point. I initially wrote down the sky observations as light/moderate snow just based on local visual inspection and assessing the snow accumulation on my arm out the door, but it was obvious that the snowfall intensity was more than that once I got out in it. Unlike earlier in the evening, there are now some >1 cm diameter flakes falling, and that is supporting more rapid accumulation. I decided to call the snowfall moderate, although it could be borderline heavy, since as of ~12:30 A.M. there was already another 0.4” on the snowboard.

Some details from the 12:00 A.M. Waterbury observations are below:

New Snow: 2.2 inches

New Liquid: 0.09 inches

Snow/Water Ratio: 24.4

Snow Density: 4.1% H2O

Temperature: 22.5 F

Sky: Moderate Snow (2-12 mm flakes)

Snow at the stake: 9.5 inches

I looked outside my condo around 11 PM and there was nothing. Just went outside at 1 AM...snow almost over, and got 3.5" outside the condo (close to yours, Bob). WOW!!! I saw the ob at KTAN with 1/4SM +SN FZFG...EEK!!! That's what I get for sitting on the 'puter.

Interesting mega band. (Geez, wonder what it looked like on dual pol data...hmmm...)

This final weenie "band" is doing pretty well. Out for a measurement soon, but hopefully it worked it over 2" here.

I would think you must of gotten .2 since your last measure. Even the light stuff accumulates quite well. Im up to 2.75 but running out of steam finally. For a while the precipitation was back building towards the sw from Maine. The next town west of me probably didn't get in on that little extra from that as it only made it so far. Added an extra half inch I wasn't expecting

do surface winds reflect that rotation?

i can't find any reports of northerly winds to the left of the center...

Im the wrong person to ask maybe eek or someone could answer that for you. My guess would be no because its so small but im no met.

Final looks to be 3 inches. Doubt much more of anything falls, maybe a tenth or two overnight but ill call it 3"
