I had a good coating this morning, looked nice. Hopefully next week I get to utilize my new Subaru the way it was meant to be used, rompin' through a couple of good snowstorms and passing BMW X Drives and Benz 4 Matics fighting their way up some of the hills on the Taconic :lmao:

I have been reading up on the XV's over at NASIOC and came upon your posts. Love the khaki. I am going to purchase a new vehicle in the spring and figured I would start doing my homework now to whittle down the list. How is it treating you?

I love it! It really is a pretty nice car to drive, very different from the Impreza. The suspension was completely redone, better damping, stiffer chassis, etc. I haven't had a chance to get it out in the snow yet (hopefully tonight :santa: ) but it has been a really confident vehicle in the cold rains at night since I've gotten it. Other than some wind noise from the mirrors and stupid loud tires it's a great highway car and gets 30+ mpg on straight highway runs, I'm averaging a little under 28 with my round trip runs five days a week from Mahopac to SOHO. I could go on and on but the bottom line is I think it's a great car and if you're thinking in this direction already there really isn't a better or even equal car in the category and if they release the diesel or hybrid version here in the states next year it will be unbeatable. You should also check out www.subaruxvforum.com for more info. One more thing, if you're thinking of getting one in the spring get an order in soon because they have about a four month wait.

On to the weather - So what's for tonight/tomorrow morning? It looks like it's a little colder, more snow or more ice?

There was never a doubt in my mind it would evolve to a colder solution. Just didn't make any sense to have the parent low rip into NYS with the block up in E. Canada and the gradient sinking south behind tonights system. A secondary along the Delmarva was the logical call. GFS late to the party as usual, this time from the west, and then from the east on the weekend. I have a feeling the coast gets the brunt of that storm though but will take my chances on snow or no rather than worrying about R/S lines. Orange County tends to get a secondary max on these systems we worry about QPF.

Most solutions give the area a good snowstorm at the very least.. Even the warmer gfs prints out a big thump of snowfall for the area.. Good times ahead :)

Definitely looking good for a nice snowstorm for many of us! We are usually very prone to P type issues in Poughkeepsie, but even the GFS keeps us all snow until the latter stages of the storm, after > 1'' of precip. has already fallen.

About an 1.5" here......perfect amount to qualify for a white Christmas but not enough to have to shovel before church. I think you guys out in the western half of the county are gold (6-12") for the next storm. A good hit here by the thruway but a lot more taint involved over here at the height of the storm. Merry Christmas to all......................

Merry Christmas everyone! Getting a little more excited about tomorrow evening for a bit of front-end heavy snow action but the 18Z GFS/NAM model runs are keeping my expectations a little low... I hope we get surprised. NWS Albany don't seem too bullish at this stage. I guess we wait for the 0Z runs and see whether the american models are onto something with their warmer thermal profiles...

Most interesting aspect of this storm to me this morning is that the primary low on WV loop appears to have hit a brick wall to it's north and is basically rolling due east. This was supposed to move up to OH/WV before the transfer to the coastal occurred. If it stays along the TN/KY border it would likely lead to a colder thermal profile further south. In addition, the secondary could pop a bit further south which would be crucial as it would likely mean a track a little bit further east than modeled as it climbs the coast tonight. Regardless, I still am comfortable with yesterdays idea of at least 5 or 6 inches in eastern Orange and 10 -12 for our friend out west there in Rock Hill. Again, if trends I'm seeing this morning pan out, we could all get buried by tomorrow.

Wow @ Upton.. They are gonna bust horribly on this side of the county..

23/20 here..

This storm has a high bust potential on either side but I agree at this point, the storm seems a touch colder. I think most of us prefer a bust like this instead of a 6-12 forecast that only delivers a few inches. As a kid I would listen to the NWS radio and local radio/TV and would love to hear them say "snow accumulations have now been upped to..." Hopefully this will be one if those storms :)
