Wonderdog
I just don't see how a nationally known met in the public eye can post a "snow potential" map like that when it clearly has slim to no chance of verifying. It's irresponsible, disingenuous, and he's clearly acting in bad faith. There are plenty of regular folk who could care less about models and understanding weather. Regular people look to the experts to provide forecasts so they can plan their lives accordingly. Being allowed to blatently mislead the general public is wrong. Media weather forecasters have a responsibility because they are in a position of public trust just as much as other positions like firemen, policemen, news reporters, etc.News reporters get in trouble for putting out false information but weather forecasters seem to be allowed to do whatever they want with no recourse. Weather and sports drive the ratings on TV. And I think most people understand that.
clueless
Big tease to get them in. And then offering up it as a big winter event. Really? Halloween was our big winter event.
Jebman
I don't understand why people are so hyper and acting so OCD about Friday night. This is rain for DCA, possible a little slush mixed in at the end. Get another hobby or move your ass 2500 miles North ASAP
nw baltimore wx
I'm from Michigan but I'm currently staying in the greater DC area for a fast week. If anything the lack of a true winter was visible like mad while driving through Ohio and PA. At most an inch graced the northern side of the hills. I'm not going to lie I was wishful at the possibility of weekend winter storm rolling up the coast. Needless to say that it looks like I'm **** out of luck. FTW looks like a few flakes at some point this weekend with a powerful arctic front. As touristy as this seems I want a photo of the cheesy DC monuments with a ripping snow background. FWIW...this sub forum is one of the best. I frequent here allot to check the discos for pattern hints. First post is a charm. Welcome! Maybe you can be the one that bring the MA some luck! We need somethin. Where in Michigan are you from? I've never been to the UP and feel like I should take the time to do some research and check it out for a vacation. midatlanticweather
Can some one explain "squails". I keep seeing it in referance to the saturday storm. Thanks Similar to a heavy shower or storm that mixes winds and cold air to the surface. It is caused by a strong lapse rate (rate at which the air cools in the column as you go up in the atmosphere from the surface) - the surface heats and causes "convective" showers and storms as the aire warmer air clashes with the cold right above the surface. mappy
Woops All good - As JamieO said, in this case for the weekend, it would be a brief period of possible heavy snow. Much like back in at the beginning of January where snow squalls came through giving those who were lucky enough to be under it a quick half inch or so of snow. Bob Chill
Can some one explain "squails". I keep seeing it in referance to the saturday storm. Thanks In certain areas of rural brushlands squabs and quails have crossbred then inbred and created an odd looking creature but still quite tasty if you are lucky enough to run across one. They've had simlar problems down in the se and florida and there have been more and more sightings of the legendary crocoduck.

H2O
Based on the first definition, I don't think I want to be squailed. Funny cause the usually dirty Urban Dictionary says this: Squail A word derived from the animal "squirrel". Squails are known to be extremely loyal to their fellow squails, saving them from enemies and danger. Squails tend to have a lot of positive, uplifting energy and are very intelligent. They usually run in packs of two, and are often unreceptive of other squails. They are especially disdainful of reptiles. When someone is "squaily" it is not to be confused with "scaly". You are ugly, boring and you have a bad attitude, I wish that you would be more squaily
