JamieOber
Eh...I'm not sure the Matt, Randy, Ian bombs that would happen from time to time was what I was referring to but I got your point Jamie...I guess since I really stopped posting about a year ago I just lost touch with the board dynamic...it just really feels strange to me but that doesn't mean it's not fine....it's just my opinion. Some of the fights over on Eastern and even WWBB would get much nastier than this. Hell, when I was on staff I had a guy tell me he knew where I lived and threatened me and my wife via PM because I dared to delete his negative weenie posts that were ****ting up a model thread. DT was threatening ass rape of people's moms.
NoVaWx
The funny thing is, you all pick on Accuweather forums for being a bunch of amateurs and weenies but its a much more polite, professional environment over there. This forum, on the other hand, has become nothing but drama and cliques and childish insults. I don't get what it is with some people here... Go right ahead, the portal awaits your click

North Balti Zen
Seems to me this forum and this board have always been moderated with a pretty damn good touch. There has to be some levity and not everything can be deadly serious. Would that we had a real event to go in "storm mode" for, rather than chasing (and mostly missing) 1" events. In any event, happy birthday to Ian, and whenever forums I am on go through one of these moments, this exchange from Anchorman always seems appropriate: Ron Burgundy: Boy, that escalated quickly... I mean, that really got out of hand fast. Champ Kind: It jumped up a notch. Ron Burgundy: It did, didn't it? Brick Tamland: Yeah, I stabbed a man in the heart. Ron Burgundy: I saw that. Brick killed a guy. Did you throw a trident? Brick Tamland: Yeah, there were horses, and a man on fire, and I killed a guy with a trident. Ron Burgundy: Brick, I've been meaning to talk to you about that. You should find yourself a safehouse or a relative close by. Lay low for a while, because you're probably wanted for murder. mappy
Somebody should go out there this weekend. It's a really good setup for deep creek. Near perfect nw trajectory and some added lift from h5 energy. Lakes temps are like 100 degrees above normal too. There might be thunderstorms and tornados. or if you are really lucky
H2O
I'll take my chances with the ice twisters over 35F and rain never changing over to snow
Bob Chill
or if you are really lucky LOL- I remember when that movie came out like 3 years ago. Being a weather weenie made think it had to be one of the stupidest ideas for a movie I've ever seen. Apparently even people who don't give a crap about weather thought the same thing. What a bomb. If they were real, there would be a bunch of amateur chasers running around in the winter getting sucked up into hideous frozen vortexes and Jim Cantore would have a field day. ravensrule
I think that is funny enough to be posted in the main model thread, even Foots forecast would not put out such a crazy map.
mitchnick
those maps always say "potential" to cover his arse what's amazing is that not even the weenies on this Board think there is that much potential
Fozz
I think that is funny enough to be posted in the main model thread, Nope. This is the thread for crap like Henry M's "forecasts".
HM
"Potential" implies probabilistic and this map is not constructed as such; therefore, he is BSing his readers. This is unfortunately a major issue amongst the meteorology world and it will continue if we continue to acknowledge this poor practice of science. HM
I would love to know how much he makes to spew his drivel. More importantly, ask Attica how much work it takes and how long it takes to produce some kind of verification on a probabilistic product (e.g. the SPC convective outlooks). BristowWx
I have often wondered if HM, JB, and the rest read this forum. There is a lot of good info and the smart people on this board practically do all the analysis for them especially in the winter. Why wouldn't they read it? Ego? Bob Chill
I just don't see how a nationally known met in the public eye can post a "snow potential" map like that when it clearly has slim to no chance of verifying. It's irresponsible, disingenuous, and he's clearly acting in bad faith. There are plenty of regular folk who could care less about models and understanding weather. Regular people look to the experts to provide forecasts so they can plan their lives accordingly. Being allowed to blatently mislead the general public is wrong. Media weather forecasters have a responsibility because they are in a position of public trust just as much as other positions like firemen, policemen, news reporters, etc.News reporters get in trouble for putting out false information but weather forecasters seem to be allowed to do whatever they want with no recourse. Ellinwood
Forecasters' wages are fairly low... AccuWeather has one of the lowest forecaster base salaries I've heard of, so I don't imagine their more experienced forecasters make as much as some people think. So the when he says "There's the potential for 3-6" it means that his actual forecast is for 0" - ∞".
