mappy
i just know a lot of people outside gov hear "gov can go home" and think "those coddled sacks of ****". but other than that this is one of the stupides arguments in a sea of stupid arguments i've ever participated in on these boards and im fully willing to cede to those who think it's a wonderful idea. Its okay Ian, they probably wouldn't notice if you left
needbiggerboat
what is the impact on you if someone chooses to use his/her vacation time to leave early? No impact whatsover, as far as I can tell....But I don't usually feel the impact when Fed offices are fully staffed on a sunny day. It really sets a low bar for organizational norms to allow people to use leave discretion, be it govt or private, in the event of rain sprinkles/snow showers that will amount to a minimal impact on the actual evening commute. needbiggerboat
why do you even care? I don't care much at all, but this is a discussion board, and the issue was introduced. People are fee to comment, despite your default grumpy tendency to criticize and belittle. Part of my work is in the organizational development and culture arenas, and this has been a long running point of discussion/butt of jokes for as long as I've lived in the DC area. So enjoy your early leave, if you choose to partake.

RevWarReenactor
This winter in a complete joke. The "storm" today. Short shot of cold air this weekend with nothing to show for it. 50's next week. Can we fast forward to April please? I held out hope till this point, but this is so sad its comical. usedtobe
That is exactly what Drudge is trying to imply by his current headline That's a poor decision as no forecast I've seen were really advertising ebough snow to cause real problems except maybe way out west. I guess OPM is gun shy because of last years fiasco.
needbiggerboat
I would agree with one point...PJ's are the optimal attire when working from home. Although with the move to Facetime and such, PJ's may be relegated to bottoms only, and basic facial prep/hygiene will need to be addressed. I guess OPM is gun shy because of last years fiasco. The only reason that I think it is a good idea is because there are school closings in the area. If kids are getting out early, it's safe to assume that there are some parents who will need to leave early. I seems more of a convenience and "work/life" balance reason than a safety one. Also, yes, commutageddon is something that they will forever be trying to not repeat.
BlizzardNole
As a federal employee, I don't like the OPM decision because of how it affects people's perception. For the record, NO ONE at my work is even talking about leaving.

Ian
That is exactly what Drudge is trying to imply by his current headline so if nothing else it's bad pr... opm should be cognizant of that and rework their planning if they're going to allow this everytime there is a minor accumulation potential. no reason it can't be a silent policy imo. needbiggerboat
god speed to all those early departing federal workers currently braving the mist and rain on I-66 and eventually 95. We will keep you in our thoughts. Ironically, some folks may encounter more hazardous conditions now vs if they had courageously sheltered in place until later this evening. usedtobe
I took my boat trailer in to get new tires. The tire guy said they had received lots of calls from people wanting to buy snow tires because of the coming storm. This was Prince Frederick in Clavert County. I wonder how stupid those people will feel later this evening.
