Lol!! I was being serious....

Oh okay, cool

I wasn't trying to sound condescending, rather just making light of it all. Like Mitch said a couple of weeks ago, tone and inflection over the internet is tough. Because of that, I always try to give all posts the benefit of the doubt.

Except Typhoon Tip

No biggie, I know I am not well liked around here, so I understand that for some it may be hard to see how serious I am with apologies.

I think people are as wrong about you as they are about their forecasts. But as I've learned, making up bull**** about people to make them look bad is the way to go.

I like you KT :) I think sometimes you go out of your way to pick a fight, but there are plenty of people that do that who don't have your other redeeming qualities.

I know I do, and its a bad quality to have. I'll work on getting better. But thank you for the kind words :)

I think it's more exasperation. I still have my moments but I've been better about letting things go. There are ways around the crap.

One of the real strokes of smarts from the staff has been these banter threads. They are a great way to work out board issues without getting into the way of the weather threads. It also cuts down on the worst aspect of the weather side, and that's when threads become less a source of good info for hobbyists and more a cacophony of conflicting info, virtual shouting, irrelevant info, etc. This banter thread offers an outlet for that stuff.

This morning I realized exactly how much of a weenie I am, when I woke up from a dream in which this system had transferred energy to an unmodeled low that suddenly popped up off the coast of Norfolk, VA, and moved slowly north. DCA got about 8". Then I woke up...

I can understand the frustration. I didn't read back in this thread to Phin and KTs discussion and I haven't paid close attention to many of the MA threads before this threat, so I don't know the details. I agree about the banter threads through as I think they serve a nice outlet for venting without clogging up the discussion threads. IMO, the weenie posts in the discussion threads are annoying, but I actually find the "post less, read more" replies to be even worse as it usually kicks of an hour long fight. BB posts and the responses to him are a classic example of this.

Also, shouldn't a banter thread be in OT where it is not visable to outsiders? Seems wierd that we would have a visable thread for banter (and eventual in-fighting) that airs our dirty laundry to the world.

Hmmm.... typically don't think about the 100's if not 1000's of anonymous lurkers that browse these threads. I should probably formally introduce myself to the "real world". Here's my recent pic from where I live:

Should have had the blue pill.

if regular posters find that some members are adding nothing, what is the value of encouraging those that add nothing or incorrect information to post more?  what does that add to the forum overall?  it'd be more efficient to put a lid on the people who habitually disrupt with bad posts and/or incorrect information, like BB.  no one tells those who add something to the forum to read more and post less.

I'm not saying that people should encourage them to post more, but being rude to a newbie generally only leads to a short-lived and disruptive spat. I try to ignore the IMBY posts and move on. If people respond with a "you need to post less" response people react badly. If they get a "I think this was addressed a few pages back" response, which is more polite, they respond better and move on.

It's just my opinion, but I never found that being rude to newbies or anybody else ever solved the problem. BB thrives on the attention, if people just ignored him he would post less.

if the banter thread is in OT then all the banter will re-migrate into the discussion threads. at least most of the time folks now move the chatter into the banter thread.

Fair enough, it was just a thought.

technically i think the banter threads were supposed to be related -- like "hey let's go sledding" or "the snow tastes like candy"

like other things this is all sort of about nothing then assorted other beefs get thrown into the nothing stew

it's not true that newbies are uniformly attacked, and in general people are approached in a civil manner--heaven knows Kenny tried his best with millzpirate. and read more/post less is a good response to people who have ignored the polite attempts to guide them to be less annoying. it's simply untrue that people are attacked simply for being new.

but he added made up obs and made up science to the discussion--bad and/or false information. what is the value of bad and/or false information to the wx-side?

I would agree with this. Even though i was over at Eastern, i still consider myself as new. In my experience, many new posters should lurk around a little and understand how this forum operates. However, the ones who get flammed, are usually the ones who continue to not listen, even after they have been reminded time and again. and think about posters who are no longer here, who made up ops to try and fit in, i mean, wtf?
