Ian
Yeah I can get pretty snarky about random people on Twitter, this definitely gave me pause, because I don't really feel like getting punched in the face randomly over a tweet! I guess I should stop my girls in yoga pants tweets.

H2O
It's pretty obvious that model forecasts beyond about 4 days right now is pretty much like throwing darts. Blindfolded. Has nobody looked at the GFS mean for Saturday? I haven't seen the members, but, hmmmmmm. Can someone tell me why these two back to back posts shouldn't be criticized? H2O
Because Saturday is 4 days, not beyond 4 days me fail but close enough to wonder why it would make sense to look at an ensemble mean at almost 4 days when the models are not doing too well at much beyond 2. Ian
We should drop the whole "weenie given his own thread" thing. To start it's not like threads are flying off the pages here and also while his overall idea was apparently very flawed some knowledgables gave him at least half a point of credit. If some of you had ignored the thread it would have gotten like 4 responses and disappeared. It's not logical that we have less weenies than other subforums but the weenies here are not dealt with. There are going to be people here with varying levels of knowledge. American/Eastern have never been a place where newbies are coddled but there's no reason to go out of your way to make people feel dumb.

FrederickWX
Since this is a banter thread, figured I would throw in a photo of one of my Rhododendrons with a few blooms... on February 7! I have never seen this bush with blooms this early. Given how the winter has gone, I wouldn't be surprised to see a widespread, severe arctic outbreak, with our coldest temperatures of the season sometime later in March. I was called out for being a big meanie, Trixie 2 and drama queen for calling out weenies with their stupidity. I listed my reasons for doing so. But, if you feel you and the other mods are doing a fine job at keeping our weenies in check, then by all means... please, carry on. I'll keep my comments to myself and will be sure not bog down any discussion thread with worthless posts.

Not that I know jack about photography but it would be near perfect if you got the bloom in just a bit tighter focus. I really like the soft focus in the backround too. Agreed... however, that's at the minimum focus distance for the lens I was shooting with. I do plan on purchasing a macro lens at some point before Spring gets here is earnest. Once we get into Tulip season, that's when I really get into photographing flowers. I just had to photograph this one, given how unusual it is. And this bush is on the northwest side of the house that spends most of the day in the shade. I can't imagine how far along it would be if it were growing on the south side of the house. I do take umbrage with how some were supposed to ignore a grandiose statement made and expect that no one else on the whole board would not comment as well. I will give you that there are a few of us who see certain things made by some and criticize immediately, myself included. But I feel that it was warranted given who made it. I would say to your second point that we may have less weenies but for OUR area they can be vocal. Could more be done? Absolutely. My only effort in any of me being a "meanie" towards others is for them to self reflect a bit and maybe understand that they themselves should try and improve as opposed to us tolerating their mental diarrhea. One other comment. It is unfair for others to soley accuse mapgirl of being mean towards others.

Bob Chill
... i just don't tend to agree that there is a big "weenie problem" in this subforum. I agree with you on this and it's really not a big deal. At least to me it isn't. The only time I get irritated (and only a little bit at that) is when I'm trying to catch up in an analysis thread when it's busy. That does get annoying. I remember when I started posted more than once in a while and some of my posts would be deleted on contact. I figured it out pretty quickly and knocked it off. Do you guys still do that on a regular basis? Just clean stuff up on contact? Mods and admins never told me why my stuff was deleted so I kinda had to figure it out on my own. Probably not worth the time and energy but maybe it would help if you guys just deleted stuff and sent explanations to some of the more prolific bad posters. You may do this already. I wonder how bad it would get if there's a big storm at some point. A lot of that however is something I've noticed over the years - bad posters get banned from one forum and end up getting banned here. Then probably go onto another forum. I think the filter's a pretty good option. The other great idea is this - the banter thread. One thing - most of the time when an individual poster gets a big negative reaction, those who react to them eventually are proven correct. Bad posters are pretty good at making big mistakes at some point, and part of that is they feel like they are enabled to post crap. Then it gets worse and eventually they have to be five posted or banned or whatever. That's why I cringe a bit if a bad poster gets defended. There is something to be said for the saying "don't encourage them."

In storm mode, I think they still do. When I was on staff at Eastern, you had to do that. There just wasn't any time. The bad posts kept coming and coming. Ever see Starship Troopers? You know the scene in the fort where the alien spiders kept on attacking. Yeah, kind of like that. I think you've become a good poster. You're a good example. You thought about it and made a change. It's not that hard, really.

Bob Chill
I still have some hope out my way : SNOWFALL TOTALS AROUND 3 INCHES ALONG THE ALLEGHENY FRONT...WITH AROUND 2 INCHES ALONG THE MASON-DIXON WHICH ARE THE MINIMUM SNOWFALLS FOR WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES. WHILE CONFIDENCE IS HIGH ALONG THE WESTERN AND NORTHERN PERIPHERY OF THE CWA...WILL HOLD OFF ON ADVISORIES FOR NOW. damn elevation elitists..... We'll get a token advisory because flakes falling and melting on impact scare the heck out of people on the beltway. Jokes aside, I think this will be my "biggest event of the season!". I've been mostly shortchanged this year. Nothing really worth measuring so far. I got lucky with the event that got nova pretty good a couple weeks ago. I work in Arlington a few days a week and I stared out the window all day. It was nice to see healthly dendrites fall for a couple of hours. Maybe about 1" but that beats anything imby. It's all good though. Tracking is tracking and snow is snow. This little vort is trackable and will probably cover more ground than all the other measly threats. What a sad sad state of winter affairs we're having.

I'm not even concerned with BB anymore as he is in the rear view mirror. Our forum is lightly moderated overall. Sometimes that sort of hands off approach is fine as we have good posters who can steer a thread through some chop in the seas. When it does get rough I think that getting the officers of the ship to direct things is better than letting the passengers do it. It is the same ol story different year. We will disagree but I think some should think more before typing and clicking a button in the corner during weather threats.
PrinceFrederickWx
I'm tired of being negative (i.e. logical) with this failure of a winter. All of you stop arguing and start praying with me for a March snow rescue like 2009. We need to focus all our weenie energies on the first week of March. I'm not being greedy, just a 6 inch storm will do.
