famartin
Probably our typical scenario... rain changing to snow with a couple of sloppy inches in town. Not too far away they could really cash in, but in town its hard to get a big dump. The biggest event I've seen in the 5 years and 2 months since I've been here wasn't even 10 inches. We've gotten 1 snowfall in the 6-9" range every winter I've been here... haven't had it yet, tend to think this won't be the one, but we could get lucky. Edit: Actualy in 07-08, we had 3 snowfalls in the 6-9" range. Only one each winter since then, though.
phlwx
Another "fun" forecast day ahead! if the sun break out, we *could* make a run at 70 but the marine layer is in pretty good this morning.
JCT777
Another "fun" forecast day ahead! if the sun break out, we *could* make a run at 70 but the marine layer is in pretty good this morning. Anything 60 degrees or higher with even a little sunshine would be great, and still nicely above normal temp-wise.

Grothar
Unbelievable how the stable air is killing precip chances. We have gone to a 60% chance of precip to 40% and now zilch. An no significant rain in the foreseeable future. I have to water my flowers and this dryness may also be the saving grace because it may delay the blossoms of the fruit trees. I would not cut any grass until we have rain.

Thunder Road
Not worthy of starting a thread, but today is the 5th anniversary of the infamous "Slizzard". I'm sure Rib has the date circled on his calendar with hearts drawn around it. A solid 5 inches of sleet here. Took 8 hours to chisel out enough of the driveway to get one car into the garage. Until it warmed up the next afternoon, we had to take shovels and picks and smash the ice into pieces in order to shovel it. My dad was flying home from SC but PHL went into ground stop before he took off. He ended up splitting a rental car with some other people from MD and NJ he found at the airport and still getting here before he would have if he had waited for the next flight. Best part of the storm...two days prior to it the temps were near 80 here and less than 24 hours prior to the changeover to sleet it was flirting with 70 in Philadelphia before the front crashed the party. famartin
You can have it. I'm enjoying shorts and t-shirt today I'm expecting some nice snow photos though. I took a bunch yesterday during the "main dump" when we got 4" in about that many hours (at my place... 5.5" in the same time at the office). Its 1 storm system but 3 or 4 separate periods of accumulating snow over about 30 hours (so far). Another typically disorganized western winter storm. mcwx
Not sure if anyone has picked up on this. NASA is launching 5 rockets (possibly tomorrow night) that should be viewable in our area. The mission is to create clouds using trmiethyl aluminum to measure the jet stream around 60 miles above the Earth. Details can be found here: http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/sunearth/missions/atrex.html Looks like the tomorrow night (03/19) is the next launch window.
