Mforty
Ah, makes sense... I take it he hasn't lived there all his life? Nope. he moved out west in the late '90's or early '00's with the intentions of living on his land in Montana... It's a long story on how he made it down to NV. This will be my first time visiting him out there.

Ah... that's a long 2 hour drive from Reno east on 80... you'll see the 40 Mile Desert and Humboldt Sink. These places were totally dreaded by pioneers on the California Trail. Pretty desolate. Not sure if you saw these.... http://www.njfreeways.com/personal/Northeastern_Nevada_roadtrips/17-Drive_to_Lovelock/03-Humboldt_Sink/ The Humboldt Sink The 40 Mile Desert Its a "bit" prettier towards Winnemucca... some pictures from Winnemucca Mountain: http://www.njfreeways.com/personal/Northeastern_Nevada_roadtrips/20-Drive_to_Battle_Mountain_and_Winnemucca/04-Winnemucca/

Mforty
Wonderful Winnemucca... Thanks for all of the links, photos and info... I'm sure we'll be making that hike that Soad mentions... Good thing I bought my dad a couple of Camelbaks for x-mas. I've only ever been to the Badlands in SD and Cabo so I'm looking forward to seeing the desert landscape that I'm not used to. Thunder Road
72.5 was the max so far. With a Td of 58, it really isn't all that comfortable out. Hopefully that combination will help spawn a few pop-ups later though.
