Predict When Detroit Will See Its First Winter Weather Headline...

The snowstorm of Feb 10/11th was an advisory snowfall where no advisory was issued, so the correct answer to the question "when will Detroit see its first winter weather headline event" would have been Feb 10th. However, the correct answer to "when will Detroit see its first winter weather headline issued by DTX" is another story. Though Detroits total snowfall of 4.8" was over an 18-hour period, 4.7" of that snow fell over a 12-hour period (3" of which fell in probably 3 hours). The arctic front itself and the snowfall for a few hours afterward was responsible for 2-3" in about 3 hours over most of SE MI.

Just for a refresher http://www.crh.noaa..../glossary/w.php

Winter Weather Advisory: 3.0"-5.9" of snow in 12 hours

Winter Storm Warning: 6.0"+ in 12 hours or 8.0"+ in 24 hours

I remember a few winters ago they did an experiemental thing where advisories/warnings were issued based on how much snow falls in how much time rather than the traditional methods listed above, but they must have went back to the old way basing off of 12 or 24 hour snowfall.
