Weathergun
Has anyone noticed the 6z GFS 384hr run on Ewall has been stuck on Jan 6th, since Jan 6th? So annoying.

jiksports
12z GFS is setting up for the overrunning event. There is a decent amount of cold air in place... let's see if the precip stays far enough north.

ag3
The good precip just misses us for the day 5 overunning event. Still clips us, but the heavier precip stays offshore.

TheTrials
big event for DC, funny if they finish with more snow than us this winter, fitting after they really missed out last year.
jiksports
And there it is. With surface temperatures in the 20's, this run should produce about an inch in NYC.

redbanknjandbigbasslakepa
we have missed the forest looking for the trees. the pattern has flipped significantly. very cold last few days and while we get a small mild window the next day or two, two chances of snow from a weak clipper and then an overrunning event. Then the pattern reloads to a blocky and much colder one late next weekend into the following week. Setting up nicely for a better stretch here. Guest Pamela
I'd like to see some stats to back that statement up. I'm not going to get into this argument again, but everyone likes to forget how many times the city and Long Island switch over to sleet and rain while inland remains all snow. I've never tried to argue Long Island is some type of good place to live if you like the snow...it isn't...if you like snow...move to above 2000 feet in the Berkshires or maybe Marquette...but it does snow out there from time to time and with a little more frequency than often reputed...so we already noted the recent good streak out at Upton... 1993-94: 55.0" 1995-96: 90.7" 2000-01: 51.2" 2002-03: 62.1" 2003-04: 60.2" 2004-05: 78.5" 2008-09: 43.0" 2009-10: 67.8" 2010-11: 61.5" 9 times in last 18 years more than 40 inches 8 times in last 18 years more than 50 inches 6 times in last 18 years more than 60 inches 2 times in last 18 years more than 70 inches 1 time in last 18 years more than 90 inches ...and then noted the 2/3 rds of a century average... Upton is on central Long Island with an altitude of 85 feet and the mean annual snowfall after 64 years of record keeping is 31.76". In the hilly areas on the N. Shore (the highest spot is just over the 400 foot mark) to the nw and wnw of Upton, average annual snowfall is likely one to three inches more in an average year, though we have no records to substantiate this. MJO812
12z GEFS has the clipper but not the overrunning potential. 12z GFS is really cold at the end of the run. Looks like a 2-3 day torch with rain and then back to the cold weather.
Isotherm
Low of 10.2F last night here - coldest morning so far this season. Beautiful.
Guest Pamela
LOL at the GFS @ 204 hours...I don't think I've ever seen a major 992 mb low over Duluth and northeastward bound in the second half of January...aka the dead of winter...
MJO812
12z GFS. It gives LGA a little snow before the rain for tomorrow.
NYCSuburbs
FWIW, the 12z CMC is surprisingly decent north/west of NYC at 9 PM (2z). Another round of snow affects NE NJ and CT at 6z before the changeover.
LocoAko
Ugh, I'm going to AMS in New Orleans and leaving Friday morning. I would miss the (slight) chance of snow on Saturday.
snywx
The coast and LI did much better then inland in 2008-2009 as well. From Queens on east received 33"-45" of snow. When you say inland are you referencing to "just inland"? Most of Orange county has averaged 60-65" in the last 11 yrs.. MBY alone has averaged 66.3" since 2002..
