turtlehurricane
lol I know I messed up the terminology after Stebo said it, you guys are uppity. Not to mention words like that are ambiguous to begin with.
Stebo
lol I know I messed up the terminology after Stebo said it, you guys are uppity. Not to mention words like that are ambiguous to begin with. Clippers have a pretty distinct definition... but I digress. I am just hoping that I can mix in and change to a little snow tomorrow afternoon while at work, would be a nice change of pace.
michsnowfreak
Clippers have a pretty distinct definition... but I digress. I am just hoping that I can mix in and change to a little snow tomorrow afternoon while at work, would be a nice change of pace. I remember back in the '90s, they always called them "Alberta Clippers", never just clippers. It would be nice but it looks like we might be too far south to see any measurable snow with this one. DTW needs 0.2" to hit the 10" mark on the season. This is turning into one of those winters where we may have more inches of snowfall than days with 1"+ snowcover. Right now its nearly 10 inches of snow with just 7 days of 1"+ snowcover. Last year the spread was 69.1 inches and 80 days. Oh to take a time machine... cyclone77
Clippers have a pretty distinct definition... but I digress.... Can we call it a screamer or a mauler? Still not expecting much from this system here. Maybe a slushy inch tomorrow morning.
snowstormcanuck
I just call em all clippers. I eschewed using "Alberta" just because a lot of these storms form in Saskatchewan but I refuse to call them a SK screamer.

UW-weather
ehhh..places further south in IA will get accumulating snow.. I wouldn't count on it, maybe up to an inch in central IA, models dont show the bands of snow developing until wisconsin.

UW-weather
true....but the RUC is the only model with that solution. it might not be picking up on the dry air aloft. i guess we will see what the 00z models have

kab2791
Holy crap at the 00Z NAM, shows 0.5" QPF total here, of course some initially is rain, but heavier stuff is snow. Probably 3-5" verbatim.
hawkeye_wx
NAM has certainly organized the cold side of the storm today. The 12z run had a little light snow in Iowa, 18z added some light accumulation, and the 00z organizes a nice band of 2-3 inches right across my area. turtlehurricane
Light snow in Des Moines, reflectivity picking up from a NE Kansas to Chicago line in response to frontogenesis. Down to 34 °F in Madison as north winds pick up and push the warm sector to the south. Looks like we're in the right spot.
