It will probaly start out warm in April then get cold then there will be a huge freeze. Then we will then get a noreaster up the east coast, cutoff lows in June, and then to top it all of a volcano will erupt

and it will never get warm all summer. lol

I wouldn't be overly upset if spring fails to show up again. Last spring was brutal cold and in all honesty we haven't had a warm spring in quite awhile around here

Are you kidding? Spring 2010 was one of the warmest springs on record for Ohio. Toledo had its third warmest April on record at 6.1 degrees above average and May and June were both 3 degrees above average.

60/70's rain/clouds all throughout June/July/August.. Nice wind off the lake for both of us as well :D

Morning rain fing with convection all summer long

Can't wait!!!

Summer of 2004 and to some extent summer of 2008 come to mind! Summer of 2008 failed to produce a 90° temperature at UGN! But I don't care for the heat, so let the summer be cooler than normal. People are saving on heating bills this winter! Could save money with a cool summer too.

I was pumped last night to see some lightning and stayed up right through 6am. Watching that line approach was a real adrenaline rush...especially seeing all the lightning on allisonhouse. For reasons we may never know...the line stopped producing lightning in the DTX CWA except for a small brief region in the southern portions. Lightning was occurring right along the GRR/DTX boundary and the DTX/CLE boundary...but next to nothing inside the CWA. Mind blowing.

Here is a reenactment of how GRL2A with allisonhouse lightning looked like through 6am....Red lines filled with yellow represent areas were lightning was taking place...black line is where the edge of the rain was at 615am.

What a bust

With respect to this winter, I've seen much worse. It's all IMBY at this point, but isn't it usually? 16.7" of snowfall to date, snow cover days be damned...it's really quite remarkable we've seen the snow we have here in LAF. At this point, I fully expect to get average season snowfall before things are all said and done. And I could care less if what falls beyond this date melts 2 days later. Just the theme of the winter...accept it and move on. You win some, you lose some. The prior run of winters have rocked...it was time for a region wide clunker. Alas, there's still some winter left. Who truly knows what awaits for February and beyond? Enjoy what you get.

That actually makes sense based on where guidance pegged the best low/mid level warm and moist advection interacting with quite the steep mid level lapse rate plume just ahead of the best mid/upper level forcing as the upper trough axis closed off and swung through the area. Had quite a bit of CG strikes up here into northern Michigan between about 330 and 530 am. Don't worry...I'm sure you'll beat us with regard to lightning once summer comes around. This place is the graveyard of convection after all. :)

easy to say move on and accept it when you live in a area say like LAF where snow really has no bearing on the economy and your livelyhood. many area's of, wi, mn, mi have been lucky to have snowmobile trails open for a couple days and a lot of them haven't even opened. Tons of work goes on yr around to have the best snowmobile trail systems in the united states right here in the MW. Spoiled or not the last few yrs there is not a way you can polish this turd of a winter so far. At least northern WI and the UP have been able to scrape by and are actually going to have some of the best conditions parts of northern wi have seen over the last few yrs.

I'm done with this winter and I don't care if it ever snows again this winter IMBY. I guess one positive thing is this last rain and torch only took out the wind blown areas snow and its still 90% ugly white glacier out there so it might not feel like winter this week at least it looks half azz like winter out there for the time being.

No you're right, the places that lean on snow/cold for business/economic reasons have been hurt no doubt. It's a shame. I understand the effect weather can have on a seasonable business...trust me. I guess I should have been more clear that I was trying to speak to places south of those areas...where it's just a "bonus" if it snows a lot or not. But not everyone is going to agree with my thoughts...which is fine.

In a way this has been a midwest version of an east coast winter. Instead of 8-12" noreasters that melt the next day, we've been treated with 2-3" fluff clippers that melt the next day!

Agreed! This winter has reminded me of my winters growing up in Lancaster, PA....only this winter we haven't had ANY big synoptic snowstorms around here.

It's a winter like this one that should make those people that said they would rather have an east coast winter over a midwest winter think twice. The stinkers will always have some snow in the midwest, this isn't true on the east coast.

Agree. But still, this winter is extremely disappointing in my book. We could have a monster finish or an epic snowstorm and it doesnt change how I feel about the winter overall. Not that I wouldnt enjoy the storm or admit its the best storm Ive ever seen, but Im about the entire season of winter, and after a dream 2010-11, this 2011-12 has been a nightmare. Its not about final season total snowfall either, because there are 3 months left to add/pad/whatever to our 13 inches that will make the final result look not-so-bad, and certainly not record-breaking (just 5.1 more inches and we are already out of top 10 least snowy territory at DTW). I still laugh at projections of sub-20" winters and stuff because at this "early" point a prediction like that is still extremely unlikely. But the "feel" of the season I love so much is just not there this year, and as we near the half-way point of winter, what can you do other than hope the 2nd half is a lot better than the first. Its years like this where I always say...if I had to choice, Id pick a pathetic but snowcovered winter over a snow-melt-snow-melt one like this one. 1965-66 had only 15.4" snowfall but 33 days of 1"+ snowcover, 1960-61 had 18.0" of snow and 35 days snowcover, and 1947-48 had 26.6" snow but 89 days snowcover. We will probably beat all 3 of those in season snowfall total, but Id take those years because at least I know id have a block of time to enjoy white and not have to rush out when it snows right away, as if I lived in the south or something lol.

I echo those sentiments completely...but we're few and far between on this board. :violin:

I guess that's why we have a complaint thread, right? :)

For sure! Actually its people like you, me, and Bowme who should actually be the most disappointed. We do not live in locations that are usually covered in snow constantly from Nov-Mar as we would like, but we clearly are far below normal. Its not unheard of, we have seen much worse (many of the REALLY bad winters were before our time actually), and we really have been blessed in recent years, so thats another reason to see this as not so far-fetched. Predictions of a nationwide snowmaggedon that have turned into a nationwide snow-drought is just more salt in the wound. But I cant say it loudly enough, to those who simply enjoy a good snowstorm and do not worry about such things as snowcover, length of winter, etc....this winter is far, far, far, FAR from over!

:snowwindow:
