When I left last Friday for vacation I remember checking the euro extended on my phone to see if I could get an idea of what to expect when I returned. At that time it showed a very deep trough across the OV in the 9-10 day timeframe. Pretty nice here in Central Ohio today....

Warmer is winning this winter no matter what the models throw at us in the extended. I see no reason to bail off the DonS. train from here on out.

Btw, this is a shot of the Waimea Canyon and Napali Coast in Hawaii. The beauty of that state is just amazing.

Coworker yesterday: "They were showing on the news last night video from last year at this time, huge snowbanks everywhere, cars driving through snowstorms, and then they showed how quiet and nice it is this year"

Dad today: "They said on the news last night that last year at this time we had 52 days and counting with 1" or more of snow on the ground, and this year weve only had 14 days so far".

Seriously people, I of all people am well aware of the weather conditions this year and last. Must we keep rubbing salt in the wound? :lmao::axe:

I had a strange feeling something weird(ending up being near record futility for most now) was going to happen this winter after the east coast got their Halloween Snow-Storm..

:(

Yeah, I actually thought it meant the East Coast and Mid Atlantic would end up getting pounded with snowstorms while we ended up cold and dry (like 09-10 for the most part). At least it was equal opportunity futility.

Well what the **** do you know, KENTUCKY gets a Winter Storm Watch for 4"+ (while we haven't even received a WWA), and could potentially see more snow in this one storm than we've seen in any storm this season.

This season needs to just go the **** away.

LOLS!!!! Oh well.. Can't do nothing about it.. I think that's pretty cool in a way, we are this far north and still are waiting for our WWA/WSW w.e. NEW RECORD? lol

I don't remember/know about a watch but there no event worth anything close to a WWA in 82-83 until later in March. 88-89 was pretty bad too in that regard.

In 82-83 until the Detroit area saw 6-10" on the first day of spring, the seasons biggest snowfall had been 1.8" on Nov 28th lol.

Detroit has had 15 winters since 1880 where the biggest snowstorm was under 4", and 28 winters where the biggest snowstorm was smaller than this winters biggest storm (so far) of 4.8". No actual records are kept on defining a snowfall as a WWA or WSW, but Feb 10/11th met advisory criteria anyway even though one was not issued, so that sort of thing is all relative.

Everyone knows my thing is snowcover, but its really coming to light this year. Pending what happens the rest of the way (and many dont like to hear it, but there is a LOT of snow-time potential left)...2011-12 has the chance to be my least favorite winter ever. And this is despite these points which may tell otherwise:

~I have had several surprise snowfalls this winter (incl being one of the higher totals in winters best "snowstorm")

~the arctic front and whiteout that it brought on Feb 10th was up there with the coolest weather things Ive ever been out in

~I have seen winters with a smaller "biggest storm" than 4.9" in the past (1996-97 and 1997-98), though of course plenty of time to change that 4.9" as being tops this year

~SE MI has fared better than many areas piling up some extra nickels/dimes

Much like last year was my all-time favorite winter ever for its heavy snowfall, snowcover, and cold....even though it wasnt my highest seasonal snowfall (behind 2004-05 and 2007-08)....this years seasonal snowfall may not be my alltime low (only need 5" more to surpass 1997-98 and 7" more to surpass 1999-00)...but the lack of snowcover (never more than 5 days straight of solid snowcover) has this in the high running for my least fav winter ever. Please, please, PLEASE March, change that!

You should live up here, I think we are still only around 10" for the season but we still have snow cover out here it is patchy but I can post a pic of the field across the street with about 50% snow cover. Snow does not melt up here!!!! This is the warmest winter ever in the history of gfk and we've had 10 inches of snow and yet I still look outside and see white. This is the snow cover capital of the world.

It's looking more and more likely that this will be my first sub 40 inch snowfall winter since I can remember. It was bound to happen at some point!

Wow, 40 would rock! oh wait I live in SW Ohio and we've been force fed a sub 5" winter total so far!

Pretty bad when southern states gets more snow in one storm than we've got all winter!!!
