McDude
Been snowing pretty well the past 1 1/2 hours. About a half inch has fallen in that time frame. Just measured around 8pm and was a little over 3.5"
blue60007
As I said, we rally well. Probably the best rates of the event here in IKK right now. Gonna go out and give it a measure in a little bit. I've got a good view of the "sheets" of snow coming down over the open road/bball court. Not bad! Chicago WX
First 6" amount I've seen in LOT's CWA 0815 PM SNOW NW ELBURN 41.89N 88.47W 01/12/2012 M6.0 INCH KANE IL COCORAHS STORM TOTAL SO FAR. MODERATE SNOW AT TIME OF REPORT...WITH SOME BLOWING AND DRIFTING.
TugHillMatt
Currenlty snowing here on the other side of the lake from many of you. We recieved between 2 and 3 inches of heavy, wet snow since 4:30. Waiting for the colder temps to move on in and change it to white powder! Nelson
Haven't taken an official measurement but looks like we are at 3-4" - Still light to moderate snow and blowing snow. Playing out as expected... Good luck to everyone east of here...
hm8
DTX lowered my forecast to less than 1-2 inches. Ah well...
Hoar_Frost
Like Thundersnow in neighbouring Batavia, I'm probably right around 5" here in Geneva, Ill., as well. It's snowing as heavily (low-end moderate) as it has at any time all day.
blue60007
Pretty sweet...just sort of spinning in place like blue said Starting to break up and move on. Twas Good for dumping a quick inch or two.
OHweather
Am over to light/wet snow here a bit SE of Cleveland...am thinking we see things pick up soon and probably start sticking quickly as those heavier returns move overhead.
Chicago WX
Pretty sweet...just sort of spinning in place like blue said Yeah I looped the radar after blue mentioned it kept spinning over Tippecanoe County. Pretty sweet indeed.
nwohweather
Well good thing I stuck with 2-4". We may not even get to the 2". This thing looks like junk. Kind of underwhelming
Chicago Storm
sitting at 4.1" now. looks like the best snows will be ending fairly soon.
Hoosier
sitting at 4.1" now. looks like the best snows will be ending fairly soon. Would be a shame if ORD doesn't make 6" with all that research I did.
RCNYILWX
sitting at 4.1" now. looks like the best snows will be ending fairly soon. Where are you located? I was going to use your report for our latest summary LSR. And are you a trained spotter? Thanks man.
Chicago WX
3's, 4's, 5's...even a few isolated spots of 7-8". Kind of like the sahara desert (wavy) on a windy day in the yard here in IKK. Best estimate of 4.5". Still coming down at a decent clip.
OHweather
The snow is coming down moderately hard here but the flakes are small and rimed... Akron and Mansfield reporting 3/4 mile visibility at 10pm, so I'm expecting some true snow to start falling under the heavier returns that are surging north. Temp is sitting right around freezing but should continue falling, so I'm expecting the snow to start sticking soon. Masfield is at 23 currently. Geos
Up to 5.0" here. Snow has been moderate since 5:15pm. Short moderate-heavy bursts have occurred this evening as well. Lake enhancement really helping boost totals. 20° here - a very wintry night!
RCNYILWX
Would be a shame if ORD doesn't make 6" with all that research I did. There's nothing we can do about it, but the 2.3" at ORD as of 00z seemed awfully low. 10:1 ratio seemed good to start, but we were thinking it was probably a bit higher ratio as the afternoon wore on. But in this situation with the wind, measuring is compromised for everyone. I had a hell of a time with the measurement at 00z too here at LOT. michsnowfreak
Rain portion of the system (much of which was from the first L last night) was 0.40". Temp has dropped from 40F at 6pm to 28F at 10pm. Any standing water has refroze...now the only question is when will the light snow move in. Off to bed though now, hope theres at least SOME white when I wake up.

Hoosier
0.30" liquid as of 9pm OBS... Assuming they have improved to 12:1 in the past few hours, that probably means they're 3.5" at the most right now.
Thunder Road
2.2" at VU. Grass measurement, so take it fwiw. That's just 0.5" in the last 2 hours, and we're back down to -SN again. I assume RCNYILWX is a NWS met at LOT? I know all the Philly NWS mets' usernames, but no one from out here. I tried submitting a Spotter Report but it said transmission failed or something like that. Chicago Storm
currently getting the best snowfall intensity of the event, with a solid mod snow. flake size has also increased...still not full dendrites though, which is not surprising. It does seem like the ratios may be better as you go south but hard to say to what extent.
Chicago WX
Yeah it's tough. It does seem like the ratios may be better as you go south but hard to say to what extent. If you can get those bands up north around Rensselaer to drop through, LAF will be in business.
