January 12-14 Winter Storm Part 2

started snowing...maybe a couple tenths so far. Probably on my way to 3-5" of snow with dry slot issues for most of this evening. I'll take it though!

Same here in Dunlap. Am thinking the mesolow over southern Lake Michigan will favor ne IL shore areas this early evening until things can get going in Michiana area later tonight and into tomorrow.

ILN makes me want to beat my head against the wall. They cause so much public confusion with every winter storm. First off, they have 2 sets of advisory, watch and warning criteria in their CWA for winter storms which means a county to your South can be under a Winter Storm Warning for 4" of snow and the county right next to them can be under a Winter Weather Advisory for 6". At every one of our media/EMA workshops with them we have tried (all of us) to stress to them how confusing this is.

And then today, they issue a Winter Weather Advisory for their Southwestern half of their CWA (who will get less snow than areas farther North) while Dayton at the heart of rush hours gets a heavy burst of snow and no advisory, etc. Just makes no sense.

Why did they mess with changing it? They should have the same criteria througout the entire forecast area.

Just came back from Meijer, just enough snow to make everything slick. A car was off the road along the curves on 350, between the fire station and the hospital. Meijer lot was a skating rink, nearly rear ended a lady at 5 mph who decided to stop 20 feet short of the stop. :arrowhead:

Been there, done that.  That Meijer lot is awful when it snows. I think we're in a lull for several hours before it picks up again.

If true, gonna need 0.8" additional for my low end. :yikes:

Drifty in IKK, but I'd estimate 2.0". Feel comfortable hitting somewhere in my 3-5" range for here.

Going to be close. Other than the popup showers across the indy metro area, radar looking pretty clear. Acutally just saw a couple of blue spots in the sky briefy.

Here's to hoping things rotate down and around tonight. Personally I think maybe an additional inch at most.

No idea, it is so confusing.

The text in their WWA cracks me up. They have that "rain will change to snow by dark" when the snow is already done here (with the first band) and we already have nearly an inch on the ground. When they issued the advisory at 4:17 PM, the snow had already ended here with the first round. Just ridiculous.

"* TIMING...RAIN SHOWERS WILL CHANGE OVER TO SNOW SHOWERS BY DARK.

THE MORE PERSISTENT SNOW SHOWERS WILL DIMINISH WITHIN A FEW

HOURS OF THE CHANGE OVER. HOWEVER...ADDITIONAL SNOW SHOWERS WILL

SPREAD BACK INTO THE AREA...MAINLY AFTER MIDNIGHT. THESE SNOW

SHOWERS WILL THEN TAPER OFF DURING FRIDAY MORNING. "

Hey, I hope no one on here minds, but I've been pulling reports from within the LOT CWA and sending them out as LSRs. All the reports and observations are greatly appreciated! Alek, have you estimated how much snow has fallen where you are in Chicago?

On red line, report from far north side coming soon.

I don't mind! :)

Approaching moderate snow here in far northern Lake County.
