Thanks mother nature I have had my snow fix for awhile. Holiday is going to be amaaazzing on Sunday. Dude they got an easy 18 inches already. Like you posted earlier they had 12"+ just from the synoptic event, now all this lake effect on top. We're prob talking close to 30" for them when all is said and done with the synoptic snow and the lake effect. Not to mention they are going to be able to make tons of snow. I bet their base by Monday will be about 20-60" That's not bad for this winter. They're already up to 45" + for the season, which is alot considering how crappy this winter pattern has been thus far and they are making up beautifully for all the snow the lost out on in the early months. Yea. They groom most of the trails, so I hope some powder is left for Sunday. Boarding in powder up to your knees is amazing. Every single time I go to holiday at the top of the ski lift at 2200-2400 feet it is nearly always snowing even if the snow machines aren't working. Mountaineous terrain is where you want to be if your a snow lover. It just basically snows from Early Nov to April there on top of the hills. One time I remember seeing some snow spots left on Holiday in June, insane....
lakeeffectkid383
The Dunkirk-Perrysburg-Springville-Arcade area is an has been getting destoyed. I'm sure by tomorrow they'll all be reporting 2 feet, especally Springville to Arcade.
BuffaloWeather
If you check out thru way cams the visibility is much higher. Ever since the winds veered and the whole fetch of the lake isn't going the lake effect band weakened like crazy. You should of seen the intensity of the band when it was parked here for 5 hours. Snowfall rates probably less then 1/2 inch per hour in that band right now. My Guesses: Perrysburg wins with 24 inches Springville 18 inches Warsaw 16 inches Dunkirk 15 inches Boston 14 inches Hamburg 12 inches
CNY_WX
I'm right in the middle of the lake effect band coming off Lake Ontario. Snowing heavily right now with good flake size. The band is definitely taking it's time sinking southward and still appears to have a Georgian Bay connection. I'm over 6 inches for the entire event and if this band sits here for any length of time there's going to be a lot more by morning.

While it has weakened some it is still nothing to sneeze at. You have to remember a few things. As the band does drift south radar has a harder time picking it up because the beam overshoots part of it (not so much right now). You also have to remember the snow is becoming more powdery as temps are colder now than they were this afternoon and powdery snow doesn't show up well on radar. I bet some people are still seeing 1-2"'/hr rates inside that band and it's basically sat over the same areas. Some areas have been under that band since 5pm. And that band didnt last over Hamburg for 5 hours lol. More like 3-4 hours. I had the radar loop from when I was working and the band moved in to hamburg around 3 and was out by 630-7 but it does appear its building back to the north though the band may not be moving north. Logan11
It's a pretty impressive band - extending all the way across to northern Saratoga County intact. I think it is finally starting to sweep south slowly. I'm ready if it wants to hold together for me. Friday was nothing much in ENY...add up all my dustings and maybe I got an inch. But the 5.5 inches of cement from Thursday should last awhile. I spent three hours injuring my back trying to move that stuff today. The only exception today was far ENY and just into MA/VT where they had a big time upslope snow event. I'm right in the middle of the lake effect band coming off Lake Ontario. Snowing heavily right now with good flake size. The band is definitely taking it's time sinking southward and still appears to have a Georgian Bay connection. Sub_Zero
Updated weather summary for all of Southern Ontario and the National Capital Region issued by Environment Canada At 5:45 AM EST Saturday 14 January 2012. ------------------------------------------------------------- ==weather event discussion== A deepening low pressure area tracking up just southeast of the Lower Great Lakes into Southeastern Quebec brought a significant snowfall to parts of southern and Eastern Ontario Friday. Many areas along and southeast of highway 401 in Southern Ontario received 2-6 cm of snow. A short distance north of the 401 from the Toronto area into Southwestern Ontario, snowfall amounts fell off dramatically with only a trace of snow reported, except in the snow belts to the southeast of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay where local amounts of 10 To 15 cm have fallen. The combination of the snow, strong winds, blowing snow and falling temperatures had a significant impact on Friday morning's commute to work in many areas. The Niagara Peninsula and Eastern Ontario received significantly higher amounts of snow as these regions were closest to the track of the deepening low. Reports of 10 or more cm of snow received as of 5.00 AM are found in the table below. ------------------------------------------------------------- Location snowfall amount (cm) Ottawa airport 10 plus ice pellets/freezing rain 20 km E Ottawa 20-25 Russell (se Ottawa) 16 Cornwall 20-25 plus ice pellets/frzg rain Franktown 20 plus ice pellets/frzg rain Drummond centre (nw Smiths Falls) 10 plus ice pellets/frzg rain Kemptville 10-15 (estimated) Brockville 10 (estimated) plus frzg rain Port Colborne - crystal beach 10-15 (estimated) St Catharines (S end) 10-15 (estimated) This weather summary contains preliminary information And may not constitute an official or final report. I ended up with 11 inches of snow on top of the icy mess. What a storm! Yesterday from about 10 am until 10pm it snowed heavily...
Flying MXZ
3" at my place yesterday. It seemed real elevation dependent as the lower elevs had grass showing still, and the hilltops had a plowable event.
Logan11
That's excelllent! ..I'm surprised you did so well right in the northern Champlain Valley there. I was thinking you may not increase your snow totals necessarily moving from YUL south into the lowlands...as opposed to Upslope heaven where PF lives. The immediate Budson Valey here got almost nothing. While just a sick sick day, flash froze over to about 7-8 inches of pelting snow here, whiteout conditions....the intensity caught me off guard for sure. really really happy for a lot of folks in this thread who have waited for too long! special shoutout to the ottawa folks ie Subzero.....what a great 2 days their....looking forward to finding out what the totals were their and in mtl
Logan11
I have to go down in the wooded area and get a measurement, but at least 1.5" fell here between yesterday and overnight/pre-dawn when that last LES band swept down. That makes 7 inches+ since early Thursday. A few flurries and 18F now. 3" at my place yesterday. It seemed real elevation dependent as the lower elevs had grass showing still, and the hilltops had a plowable event.
lakeeffectkid383
Picked up 1.5" since last night and it's still snowing. This brings the storm total to 8" here. Several 1-2 foot drifts all over. Roads are snow covered and slippery and the wind is blowing. Temp is 20 degrees. Sure feels like winter FINALLY. Gonna go out and shovel for the 4th time since yesterday morning. Perrysburg is going to come in with huge totals I just know it. Theyve been getting POUNDED since about 6pm yesterday. CNY_WX
We hit the jackpot here in northern Onondaga County. I measured about 12 inches this morning for the storm. We were in the sweet spot for lake effect for about 6 hours last night. Still snowing lightly giving a snow globe appearence to the landscape. OSUmetstud
Appears I busted a bit low in BUF....spot on in ROC. I'd have to measure but I think that 6pm Cocorahs report of 10.7" at 6pm last night in West Seneca seems awfully high. The 8.0" as of 6am seems reasonable. BuffaloWeather
Having measured this morning along with compaction over night I still come in with an average of 12.5 inches and still snowing pretty good out there right now. I agree OSU that WS measurement seems about 2-3 inches to high maybe more. The band parked itself right south of WS for the majority of late afternoon yesterday with intense snowfall rates. BUF is at 8.0" as of 10 am and I'm at 8.8" as of 12:30 this afternoon. I'm only 2 miles from the airport so I assume theyre probably the same as me.I'm not sure about that 10.6" either but West Seneca is a large town and the southern and eastern areas do have a bit of elevation so it's possible. Anyways this was a great event and quite an overachiever IMO. The wind with the snow yesterday made it feel like a storm we havn't gotten in years. It really felt like a blizzard not due to the amounts but how much the wind blew the snow around creating whiteouts for 10 hours! I'm up to 14.3" for the season with this =]

Yea I agree, probably an inexperienced measurer since yesterday it was difficult to get measurements with all the wind. I have followed the cocarahs technique with a slap of wood in the backyard, but yesterday I had to use different tactics to get accurate measurement. Measuring in 20 spots all over the yard and grabbing an average. The band never really hit WS it was Hamburg/East Aurora/ South OP/Boston. Its still snowing here large flakes!
