tamarack
Looks like enough RA Friday to destroy this month's chances of being my driest since moving to Maine in Jan 1973, but h85s to 9C may take out my very modest snowcover as well. Why am I not surprised?

Clinch Leatherwood
I def agree the bigger event is much more satisfying and interesting to track. I like all snow so I wouldn't root for getting no snow versus even some cruddy events...but the smaller events do start to lose appeal the later the season gets so I understand why people would root for futility over them. But everyone has their own opinion on it. I wouldn't even say I'm rooting for futility, but if we get to that point in a few weeks we might as well put a headstone marker on this winter so it's one we always remember. codfishsnowman
having snow even mentioned in those awful gridded noaa local forecasts with a low 35 and a high of 51 later this week lol...esp here in black hole of snow looks like a nice torch incoming though
CoastalWx
I don't want a hear a peep out of scooter next year about how we're due for a clunker. He had been tormenting me with that. The stats are bombs away next year 99-00 en route.

CoastalWx
There is no way leaf out happens on April 10th. That would be beyond climate change...we better start making sacrifices to the Gods, if that happens.

weatherMA
No way. Well I guess maybe not because of the indices or whatever, but I mean climo wise next year has the same 1/1000 chance of being this bad or whatever it is.

CoastalWx
There were some trees leafing out by the end of April during April 2010, but those were the earliest of early trees. More like shrubs.

powderfreak
No way. Not likely, but I certainly wouldn't go into it expecting snow bomb after snow bomb. Bad winters can certainly come in bunches and even with this year, our 10 year average is still likely well above the 30 year average.... nature likes to find the mean, that's why its called a long term average. The odd thing is I really think we were due for a clunker but I don't feel like now we are due for a bomb-tastic year. Then again, even 75% of climo would feel like a good winter after this one. 40/70 Benchmark
This is about to be the worst season in 57 years of record keeping my area, so I'll bet against a repeat anytime soon. I will also bet against another crap winter in general.

Well no I wouldn't expect that either, but there is virtually no way a winter as bad as this one, gets repeated. Hopefully we can get some -NAO back. This whole +AO and associated feedback are locked right now.

This year will likely put my 10 year mean below my long term mean.....I'm not saying we're due for another 2010-'11, but given the state of the long term NAO, I would bet against a 2nd consecutive horrible year. 40/70 Benchmark
Are those good? Is that what we had in '04-05? No lock, but most of our best winters were weak Ninos...it is our most favorable ENSO state....tough to have a dud in those. 1977, 1978, as well as 2005 to name a few...you get the point. We were getting spoiled thinking that everything should be 8"+ at one point. I'd gladly take a 2-4" event this season.

Thanks. I agree though. It would be tough to repeat this winter again next year. At least we got our dud out of the way.
