Well we still have a good solid week of cold wx to come. It's too bad people are spending so much time on a possible torch way out in the future. I'd focus on maximizing any snow chances while we have the cold this week and worry about the torch when/if it happens.

+1, the last torch/rainstorm the warministas were pushing ended up leaving over a foot of snow.lol The whole torch/futility fetish is a pathetic coping mechanism.

Woe is me mentality...it tends to take hold the worse winter gets...just like the endless optimism during good winters becomes more contagious.

There's obviously those who favor one side regardless of the pattern or medium range threats or lack thereof.

I really like cold temps almost as much as snow...I know most on here hate "useless cold" but I love it. Not trying to start trouble...

I like them when there is snow on the ground so I will enjoy this cold shot much more than the last one. Currently 11.8F and 2-3 inches of solid concrete on the ground...it looks wintry which has been so hard to come by.

My spirits were boosted by Thursday's storm. That was almost a miraculous event LOL ...rain/snow line sets up about 50 miles west of me and it never makes it here through 13 hours of frozen precip.... I felt like I was living in West Chesterfield or something.

Stuck at 7.9° F after free falling earlier. Lake effect clouds coming from WNW keeping me from free falling. I'm not too optimistic I'll go subzero tonight or beat my 0.5° F seasonal min from 1/4, unless if I can really cool off just before daybreak. I actually feel better about tomorrow night being colder as we'll have clear, calm conditions.

Looks a lot better out there now. Frozen solid. Hopefully we can add to it

Windchills subzero anyway with snowpack...at least it feels like winter, even if its an island in the sea warmth thus far...I'm not convinced we can't add some more wintry wx over the next 7 days out of more than one event...it could easily be not much, but its something to keep an eye on. We haven't had a lot of very deep cold airmasses this season nor a lot of highs to the north of Maine with an event approaching until this last one.

Anyone outside of the hills shouldn't give a crap....I'll bet I don't see more than a cumulative inch the rest of the week.

Garbage winters are almost always elevation dependant.

Loving my arctic chill over bare ground.

Can't look at the GFS for details but it's been strongly hinting that the torch doesn't evolve as quickly as we thought. So who knows.

We'll see what the Euro shows. Who'd have thought Boston would go 75 days since the last 1" snow event?

My in laws just sent a 'message to all of us asking us ro be careful in the snow. Most are in Chicago and they got 5 inches or so Thursday. 7 inches for the season so they too are dead ratting. Here's what I wrote back to them:

It doesn't snow in Boston anymore.  None.  0.5 inches since Halloween.  I'm not happy.

Precisely my point.

Woe is me mentality blindly assumes there is nothing to look at...it might be right, but I will try and look at it objectively and see if there is something there. Obviously its easier to be optimistic when the last event gave something here...but I'm not preaching optimism or ullr like Pete...I'm looking at the possible pattern that could produce a little more wintry weather should the high north of Maine be a feature....it might not, but simply saying "who cares" is something that I would reserve for the meltdown thread.
